Following message comes up
This application has failed to start because HTMLayout.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
If I just go ahead and install from start again, will it uninstall existing programme. I have been unable to remove the existing programme.
Thanks.

You can use the Avast Removal Tool
http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility
to completely remove Avast and then do a clean install, if you are having problems.
On here....

others have posted about the new update, and whether they've had problems or not, and how they've resolved them.
My update via the GUI has been OK so far...fingers crossed!

Big thanks to Skymist.
It took a heck of a long time to work through everything, a techie would sail through I reckon.
But as a non techie, I have to say the changeover is not user friendly.
I reckon it is all done to convince me it must be good and that I really must buy one of their products. Up theirs says I.
Am I right in thinking I will not have any problems leaving microsoft firewall on, or should I switch it off again. I had been running Avast with microsoft firewall off till now.

I can't remember if I switched it off because of a 'something is slowing your computer down' type message, or if I was advised to do so......usually one of the grandkids!
In the new Avast blurb, it says that any problems with other firewalls are more easily avoided, doesn't say problems are removed, just more easily avoided.
As an aside, what is programme rundll32.exe that I am warned will lose any unsaved data if 'closed now' that appears when shutting down.

Assuming you're using the free version of avast, I'd switch it back on.
rundll32 could be various things, you need the rest of the command line to find out, this may help http://live.sysinternals.com/procexp.exe you identify it, unless it's only initiated at shutdown!!

Yes, it is the free version.
rundll32.exe, only comes up at shutdown.
Found this, and will work through it.
