Heating and an open stairwell
We have an open stairwell and have two upper floors in a 3 storey.
Downstairs is always cooler than upstairs but I helped the situation by balancing the radiators.
I did turn the landing valves right down to direct more hot water to the downstairs and hall radiator where the stat is. However I'm wondering if having a colder landing is sucking more heat up and contributing to a cooler downstairs.
Should I keep the landings warm to stop the heat rising?

You could, but the result would be more heat released in the house, and more resultant heat loss, assuming the same ambient temp.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

One of the laws of physics is that heat rises and you can't defeat the laws of physics. Not much you can do about this situation under the circumstances - it's just the same in our house.0 -
Any way you can put a heavy curtain across the bottom of the stair well ?0

Yep, have a !!!!!! curtain, or probably better, a blind, or put up with the heat loss. I suffer the latter, although I think I'm going to get a blind, the curtain would look so wrong.0
