CD has a sore tummy

Ever since CD rolled in the fox poo he's had runny poos. At first we thought he was stressed at being unceremoniously dumped into the bath so he's been on a bland boiled chicken and rice diet for the past 2 days and he's been his normal bouncy, happy self. Today he's not eating, has very runny poo and I saw a little bit of blood in it so we're off to the vet this afternoon.
I decided to stay home and look after him today. But, a few minutes ago I let him go outside for a poo. He came back in and I noticed something hanging outside his bum. I ended up chasing him round the kitchen so I could inspect his rear end. Anyway I managed to take a look and it was something that looked like grass. I gently removed it and it was a long, thick blade of grass.
Could this be what's been causing the problem?
Also is there anything I can do to help him feel better before we go to the vet?

My dog eats grass when she doesn't feel well, she eats and it makes her sick soon after, she seems to do this a few times a year, so maybe he ate the grass as wasn't feeling well? I hope he is better soon.0

Sorry I don't have any advice or anything useful to say really but didn't want to read and run. I hope CD is better soon and that the visit to the vets comes up with something really simple. Let us know how it goes.0

Don't know about the grass. As Holly said it usually makes them sick. Bailie had very runny poos with blood in when she was younger and the vet said it was probably colitis, caused by something she'd eaten. She also had a temperature so was put on antibiotics. The vet also gave me some paste like stuff in a tube which was doggy pro/pre biotics to get the bacteria in her gut back to normal. She had to have a third of the tube per day for 3 days. Also she gave me rehydration crystals and I had to make sure she drank 100mls every hour and I had to use a syringe to get it down her throat as she wasn't drinking of her own volition. I think the rehydration bit was only included as she was quite young and dehydration in a puppy can be quite serious. The vet said not to starve her as they don't recommend starving animals anymore as the action of digestion helps the healing process. I don't know if this is a universal train of thought or just my vets. Anyway it all cleared up very quickly and she was none the worse for it.
As for helping him feel better, I don't know. You're doing absolutely the right thing by not messing about and getting him to the vet. Encourage drinking if you can (easier said than done, I know) as water's more important than food at the moment. I'm sure it will all be fine. Make sure you post here later to let us know how you get on. I'm not going to tell you not to worry coz if you didn't worry then you probably wouldn't care, and I know you do. Good luck.

Our dog eats grass out of habit :rotfl: (He's a rescue and was very underweight when we took him home, so may have been used to eating grass. Vet says he's a-ok though!)
Someone told me that charcoal dog biscuits are good for dodgey tummy's, and they did help ours when we were trying to find a suitable food (Again we didn't know what he had previously been fed.)
Harry had a bout of something a little while ago with high temperature, VERY upset stomach and lethargy/lack of interest in anything. He made a speedy recovery after the vet prescribed some antibiotics, pro-biotic food and some stuff that looked a bit like critical care in a giant syringe.
Hope you get on okay at the vets though, it's definitely the right place to go!0 -
My dog used to eat grass quite a bit and not to throw up as he kept it. He very occasionally had a blade that would not be digested and come out his back end with a bit of poo hanging off it....not my preferred look, but came out ok. He used to swipe my hairbrush sometimes and same thing used to happen with a piece of my hair.
My dog never had a bad tummy with it though so hope he's ok.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Just back from the vet via Mr M to get some chicken for CD.
She reckons that perhaps captain dumbass ate some of the fox poo. His tummy doesn't feel swollen and he's still dashing about like a loony so we've got some antibiotics and he's to eat more chicken and rice for a few days.
He eats grass all the time, not just when his tummy feels dodgy. At the moment he's lying across my feet with very sad eyes begging for cuddles because the bad vet touched him and took his temperature.
So £40 something down at the time of year when I don't need it (Christmas, broken shower, broken gate) but it's worth it to know he's ok.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Slippery elm food is a handy addition to your dog supplies. Slippery elm powder is the best but I can only easily find the food (Its in H&B for example) At the sign of any runny tums and its a couple of teaspoonfuls of that mixed with probiotic yoghurt- my dogs love it! If the problem persists then it is off to the vet!
I think it is also supposed to help with constipation..but mine get the runs!!
Both my dogs eat grass from time to time but are rarely sick. I guess some onlookers have a snigger as they see me dash behind doing the wiping bottom routine with a hound who has decided she does not want to comply!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Glad it's nothing major. As you said, £40 to be reassured, but worth it. The AB's will kick in quickly and he'll be all better soon. Better now than at Christmas when the vets are shut I suppose. Incidentally my friends dog had grass hanging out of his bum last night. She said this is a regular occurrence and heralds a game of chase the cling-on:rotfl:

Ok so he has water in his bowl - lovely, clean, fresh water and he chooses to drink my bathwater, while I'm still in the bath. :rotfl::rotfl:Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

I've always wondered....what does CD stand for?

And did the vet give you metronidazole, by any chance? That's what they gave my kitty when she was pooing blood.0
