  • Well done on your NSD weekend..
    Thank you

    Evening,

Had a VERY MSE frugal idea just now. :T
We have been struggling lately with a lack of face cloths in the bathrooms. Heaven only knows where they have gone???

It is giving the children a good excuse not to wash their faces, so I had to do something about it.

I nearly got online to look some up on Ebay, but then I had a brainwave.;) I got out an old white towel and I have cut it up into 10" squares and hemmed them on my sewing machine.

We now have 12 Face cloths :j. (and NO money spent)

    xxxx
  • Good evening Steph :)

Well done on a no spend weekend! I've not spent anything today but Saturday was grocery shopping - although it was all budgeted for so not too bad!

I LOVE the idea of making face cloths out of old towels! I may have to try that myself when I next need to get rid of some towels. Well done! :j

Blah to Monday tomorrow.. but here's to a good money saving week! x

    Hey hun,

Glad you had a thrifty weekend as well. I don't count anything that is included in the budget as a spend.

Hope your Monday is going ok xx
  • Morning all,

Quiet day today. Nice start to the week. DH is off on a pheasant shoot today. He did some work for a local farmer who instead of paying (), offered Dh a days shooting. All this was bearable until I found out it was on a week day. So not only did he not get paid for the work he did for him but we also lose a days pay. (:mad:).

Hubby has promised to work Saturday to make back the lost wages today. I don't begrudge hubby going shooting, I just wish it would'nt cost so much money, I bet it has worked out at about £300 lost (:mad::mad:).

    Ok rant over.........

I am trying my best to find frugal money saving solutions to things that might lead to me spending money.

Yesterday I made the flannels, looking on Ebay it looks like I have saved about £7 on 12 flannels. Not much but it all helps.

This morning I decided to darn the holes in three of DD's tights. they must be getting old because all of a sudden she seems to be sprouting holes in her tights almost everyday. Other than the hole, the tights seem fine, so thats a little bit more money saved.
I see a three pack of tights on Ebay for £6.45.

So thats £13.45 saved in just one day :T.

I know it all sounds abit petty and ridiculous but at the moment our budget is barely going to pay the bills end of January - early February so if I can avoid ANY spend then that will all help us climb out of the big hole we got ourselves into late last year.

Onwards and upwards, I will be back later when I have more time
    xxxx

Morning Steph. Great idea on the face cloths. Brilliant.
Am still laid up at home which is good for my money saving - except that I keep wanting OH to go and get chocolate! But we are still in budget with 5 days to go to month end. :j

    Morning Miz,

How is the pain going? Hope you are managing to keep it under control. I know how you feel about chocolate?. I was rooting around last night trying to find some. I found a half eaten white chocolate snowman in the back of the fridge which I snaffled. how desperate was I :rotfl:.

I am loving finding money saving ways to prevent spending money at the moment. It makes me feel quite proud of myself because usually i would just jump straight onto the computer and get ordering new stuff.

Hope you are doing ok. xxx

How frustrating. Is he shooting anything you can eat? Might take then edge off at least if you get some nice game for the freezer?

Don't think it is petty at all. I think we are often too quick to throw things out and replace when all they need is a bit of TLC. I have committed to a personal challenge not to buy any new clothes this year. I did well with shoes and some things at Christmas and I have lots of clothes. So I won't be buying anything new. If I need something I will go to a charity shop or adapt something I have.

I really like your "make do and mend" ideas. Keep them coming. :T

Pain is still quite bad - comes in waves so I think it is gone and then it comes back with a vengeance. Worst thing is I can't take the dogs out. Two of them are fine to just hang out on the sofa but the third is getting a bit fed up. :( OH does her best to take him but she is at work all day and it is dark by the time she gets home. No doubt he'll survive (we have a big garden so it is not that he can't get out or run about).

You should be proud. I think you'll be surprised at how much you can save that way. We waste a lot of things that still have life in them. I am going to take a leaf out of your book and look for ways to extend the useful life of things I have. :)

    Morning Steph
Boo to the OH's shooting, but hopefully now he is more on board with things he will do the extra hours.

It is not sad to do things like making the face cloths and mending the tights, it is how things always were before companies realised that if they paid for lots of advertising telling us we "should" throw things away and buy new each time, we would all become brainwashed. People used to smile at me putting a little water into the washing up liquid/shower gel/shampoo containers and cutting the ends of tubes of creams and toothpaste until they realised just how much they were throwing away. The way I see it is that it is my money I am saving, and it pays for buying something else I want:rotfl:

In the olden days:D this was how "old money" kept control of the finances, it is said that HRH still runs her households in the same way, so you are in very good company:A

Having written the above, I have a huge pile of mending that needs doing and I really need someone to press gang me into doing it:(:o

Have a good day, and almost forgot the Valentine bunting is fab,

  • Morning Steph!

The mending and making is far from petty! It might "only" be £13 saved, but that money could be the difference between a bill paid or unpaid - and it will soon add up.

I think it's a fantastic attitude to have, and more of us need to adopt that! Thank you for your inspiration :) xx
