Long term is cheaper because the games are cheaper (esp now with things like steam sales) and really it hasn't been the case you really needed upgrade for something for years now (because big studio games were made to run on the xbox and ps3)

The initial hit is a lot more however which is the problem.
wouldn't even say that PC version pre order and release COD ghosts were £32.99 cheaper someplaces compared to the £39.99-£44.99 on xbox 360 and ps3.

steam does have a November sales black ops 2 was £6.99 for e.g but the DLC was still £11.99 which didn't make any sense to have the game cheaper than the DLC.

most games are made for consoles then coded for PC release with a few tweaks for graphics and OS and direct x, so all the console game being released will be more or less the same system specs for a few years until they update their games engine to comply with the new release consoles, so PC's more or less don't need upgrading for a few years in terms of a graphics card until something new hit the market with consoles makers of PC games are targeting those with windows XP with direct x 9.0c only now certain games makers are targeting direct x 10 and 11 for game engine update purposes and most graphics cards support direct x 11 out the box now.

that's a good point Jaydee, what is the system that's needing upgrade or replacement op.
  • Thanks for the replies, I thought that might be the case. Budget is low because we've already spent out on a lot for Xmas. We already have Xbox, ps3, wii, DSx3, iPads etc etc! My son has some money saved so a better idea may be for us to give him some money so he can save for a gaming computer.
