iTunes card and iPhone

A quick question regarding an iTunes gift card. If I purchase one for someone who has an iPhone then can they spend the credit on the 'app store' icon directly from their phone to download paid for app etc or does it have to be spent 'through' iTunes on the lap top.

I don't really know if there is even a difference between iTunes and the App store as I don't have an iPhone myself - is it essentially the same logon and credit to an Apple user?

Also, if I buy a 3-pack of £10 iTunes vouchers then can those three vouchers be used by different people? - ie one for each nephew/neice to use on their own device/login. I am assuming its a yes but there appear to be 53 pages of terms and conditions and life is too short!

Thanks
