Which Kindle to buy? Paperwhite or Fire HD

I have the Kindle Paperwhite which in 2012 and have bought for Christmas gifts The 2nd Generation Paperwhite. I chose to buy it based probably advice from this forum can't remember but I also think is looked at Which
I have and and am delighted and use it almost every day
My Brother lives in Australia and asked my advice I said as reader I would buy the Paperwhite.
My SIL has already has already bought the Paperwhite he is unaware 0f..
Yesterday a flyer for the Kindle Fire HD and "he says his looks better it can do more things" I had looked at Kindle Fire after reading some info the shiny screen etc
What should she do return the Paperwhite and buy the Fire HD? He has already an iphone and apple laptop He has an ipad there are several things around and my SIL chooses to used an ipod! He only uses the laptop and phone He uses the laptop for job and he might check out Trip Advisor He will send email for work but he does send emails generally
Quite frankly I would let them get on with it BUT which would anyone buy or recommend, Would appreciate advice ?

Depends if you want a tablet or a e-reader. Two entirely different things.
A Paperwhite is a dedicated e-reader locked to Amazon's walled garden, i.e. MOBI format books only.
A Fire HD is a tablet with the same restrictions. If I wanted a 7" tablet to do more than read e-books, then I'd go for something like a Nexus 7-and put the Kindle app on it for books.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If he has an iPad why would he want an android tablet?

An ereader would make some sense.
  • I have an iPad and a kindle fire for the kids. I use the kindle fire only when I have too as it's no where near as good in comparison to the iPad....my opinion would be if he has an iPad don't buy kindle fire. If it helps I love my paper white now I've got used to the screen being different to my old kindle

Thanks for all that I would not consider buying the Fire As you say when you don't even use what he has I spend about 8-10 weeks each winter and so I know for a fact he just does not use. He might come in and put the laptop down spend maybe 5 minutes and I think he is just checking something for
    work.
