British Gas splurge more money on huge party

Options
I am utterly disgusted at what I saw tonight while many people are struggling to keep warm.

British Gas laid on a Lavish party for 700 employees amid tight secrecy last night at Zulu Sundance, the Athena venue in Leicester.

This featured coaches for guests, canap! reception, 3 course meal with wine thrown in, a full show featuring dancers, acrobats and aerial artists, plus DJ and disco until 1am.

I have no idea of the cost but it would have been a packet and would put the recently reported Altern Towers scandle in the shadows. Thier website state that tickets for the public nights are £36 a head so times that by 700 plus the wine and that's how much British Gas laid out.

All of us employees are banned from even mentioning it to anyone and social media is a HUGE HUGE no no.

Tonight was wrong, just wrong when so much money is being made from other people's misery, makes me sick.

Staff need to be rewarded and what they spent per head is very similar to other companies. There is just a lot of them.

They probably banned social media for this very reason. Can't be seen having fun, not allowed to be rewarded when some people are cold at home. The employees can't go around with their heads constantly down can they?

Why was it wrong? Why do you think employers should not treat their staff decently? Do you oppose pay increases - are you volunteering yourself for a pay cut? In what way is a meal, a performance and a couple of glasses of wine 'lavish'?

What on earth are you disgusted about? Perhaps you believe they should be laying people off and taking on workfare jobseekers in their place?

As mentioned by oldskool, idiotic and wholly unjust responses like yours are the reasons for the subterfuge.

If you were so disgusted, why did you go? From your very detailed description you clearly were there or peering through the window! And at the time you posted; maybe you had too much of the lavish wine?!

Your comments are ridiculous. You think by not holding a party for staff will help the underlying energy cost issue? Would you care to donate your yearly salary to the cause? I assume not.

If you have such an issue why dont you highlight it the right way? The staff aren't responsible for whats happening so why should they not be able to enjoy the festive period like all companies?
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Leicester firmly BGB (SME) territory?

Even if they hadn't thrown such a lavish party, I can't see how it would benefit a residential customer.
  • Wait...... £36 a head.........How much was it for the rest of your body!!!! COOL STORY BRO!!!!

And such expenses are usually tax deductible anyway \ expenses if wrapped around a 'conference' of some 'guide'.. Sounds more like a disgruntled employee who wasn't on the guest list.

Shhh- little secret. I am going to my office Christmas party tomorrow and I work for a tax payer bailed out bank! There are some right misery guts around on these threads this time of year.
  • Any more industry shills wish to 'out' themselves in this thread? :p

I'm guessing by your post that you are either an employee of British Gas who was more than happy to attend the event or you are an employee of the venue?

In either case your post is attention seeking drivel and all you are doing is trying to jump on the media band wagon by slating the company.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a company treating their very hard working employees with a party at Christmas time. I spent 14 years in the Army and we had a party every Christmas with alcohol, 3 course meal and entertainment(shock horror).. Does that make you utterly disgusted too?
And as Bluebirdman of Alcathays states below, the Leicester Offices are part of British Gas Business and nothing to do with Residential.

So kindly step off of your high horse and refrain from subjecting us to your nonsence. Thanks and Merry Christmas

But if the OP is an employee, didnt they also have the option to go ? Perhaps they dont live anywhere near Leicester? I hear national Grid also used the same venue for its midlands staff Christmas bash..tickets £10 per head.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
