Car crash advice

Some idiot has ran into the back of my mum's car adn left her badly shaken. My mum, being a highly strung type of person didn't get all of said idiot's detiial's at the time. Idiot is now moaning that my mum should not only treat herself to some sexually explicit activity, but that she's being unreasonable suggesting insurance companies get invovled.
Mum is very shoock up, so I'm going down to try and calm her down and to write out what has happened. Does anyone have any advice for the next step or things to be careful of? I'm going to get her to call her insurnce now, but I'm also tempted to get the police involved as idiot has been abusive to my mum.
Any advice given will be greatfully recived, poor mum's too nice and shouldn't have to pay for her own car ot get fixed as well as put up wioth abusive phone calls.

Yes, call the police as well as the insurance.0

you can call the police, but they might not get involved. very important you get every single fact down on what occured. exact time, exact location, positioning of the car, road conditions, i mean everything. Your mums insurance company must be contacted, because it sounds like she has suffered some form of physical/emotional distress. Also, were there any whittnesses present? write everything down, because although you report everything to your insurance on the phone, they will send out papers, requesting your mum to write an exact statement of affairs which took place, and memory can be real bad after hours, let alone days or weeks.
Is mum physically or emotionally affected by this accident? mum can persue some compensation around this area. It would helpful if your mum could visit her local GP and get a report on her well being, this may even go to court, so be aware of this, hope this is helpfulTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
If someone goes into the back of you its THEIR fault.
Did anyone witness the accident, withnesses are great.
Call the insurance company NOW.
Inform the police, especially as it may esclate or turn nasty, better for them to be in at the start.
Does your mother need medical attention? If she does make sure that goes on record too, as she will need proof.
I've had a car accident (thankfully not big), the pain set in the next day. I ached everywhere, I think it was the jolt. I didn't hurt when it happened, I think it was the shock.0 -
The police will get involved due to the abuse, not the car accident itself.0

If it could prove useful, take pictures of where the crash occurred as well as pics of the car from many angles..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Yes, involve the police. They have access to the Motor Insurers Database - holds insurance details for every vehicle on the road. This is what the Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras are linked to.
The police can provide your mums insurers with details of the pond life scums insurers to save her having to deal with him again.0 -
I agree with others that you definitely should report the other driver to the police. And get mum checked out by a GP and/or A & E if she suffers further symptoms out of hours.
Once your mum has reported the incident to the insurance company you have no need for further contact with him. The insurance company will continue all further conversations.
Although you are rightly angry, my guess is that the other driver quite arrogantly decided to blame your mum because of her age. He probably swore because that is his usual pattern of language. Sadly, arrogance and foul language are rather commonplace these days.... So I'd not necessarily worry about any reprisals - but he is seriously bang out of order and a word from the police should reinforce the message that he was most definitely in the wrong.
Sorry to hear this happened... hope mum is feeling better soon and that this is quickly resolved. She is fortunate to have you taking care of her

police will only get involved if 3rd party refused to give details or someone was injured....
get it passed on to insurers asap...0 -
The abuse could amount to assault and the police would be interested in that case. It's not clear from the OP whether the other driver refused to give insurance details.0
