Cycling Safety

You're already discussing this in the other thread, and what relevance does this have the OP?What than cyclists? I very much doubt it!
In a recent 'survey' carried out at a busy road junction in London, 194 cyclists went through the lights (most without even attempting to stop) on red in 2 hours. I don't think they clocked one single motorist doing the same during the same period.

The survey is flawed and does not prove anything, I think I agree with your choice of putting the word survey in inverted commas as its not a survey as I know it.0 -

And I suggest that your comment is totally irrelevant in response to my comment.
In this case the cyclist collided and seriously injured a young child while contravening a red light. Plus he left the scene without concern for the child despite knowing he collided with her. He subsequently was charged with GBH, something that he wouldn't of been charged with had he been driving a car. Had he had been driving a car, he would also have been charged with leaving the scene of an accident (or failing to stop), a charge which is not available for a cyclist (AFAIK) even though the intent is surely the same.
He also couldn't be breathalyzed or done for failing to provide. All the rights without the responsibilities that's what the cycling evangelists want.0 -

Every motorist breaks the speed limit, and I don't see them beating themselves up about it, unless (very rarely) they get a ticket.
Most of them accept they are breaking the law, but don't for a second consider changing their habits. Why is that different from the red light jumping cyclist?Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
I must say I witness this daily:
- Motorists going through red lights
- Taxis stopping feet after the stop line and/or in the ASZ, and I mean the black cabs in Hull do this continually it really annoys me as a pedestrian as they block my crossing the road, why do they think they're special.
- Cyclists riding through Zebra crossings without dismounting
- Cyclists going through red lights at major junctions
- Cyclists (typically on mountain bikes) riding on the pavement

Apart from when they hit a small child on a pedestrian crossing as in the recent case in Brighton.
A cyclist hitting a small child at 30mph is STILL less likely to cause major injury or death than a car, or a bus, or a lorry hitting the same child at the same speed. This is not opinion - it's basic physics. F=MA.
As I said - not AS dangerous. I didn't say not dangerous.It's only numbers.0 -

I think you have just proved my pont.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

I treated myself to an early Christmas present the other day in the form of a head cam after numerous incidents on my daily cycle into work.
I cycle 9 miles to work each morning down the notorious CS2 from Woodford to Liverpool Street and yesterday was my first day of filming.
In that single 40 minute journey I filmed the following
- 2 buses going through red lights. One of them had actually crossed the stop line not only after the light turned red but after the opposing signals had turned green and the traffic had already started moving
- 1 taxi driving into the ASL after the lights had gone red and after myself, two other cyclists and another car who were all in front of him had managed to stop. In other words he deliberately drove into the ASL
- 1 Lorry who not only drove into the ASL after the light changed but also drove past the ASL and completely blocked the crossing even though he arrivaed after the traffic in the two lanes next to him who all stopped.
- 1 van pulling up alongside me at the infamous Bow roundabout. He was not indicating to go left at the first exit because that exit was actually close with temporary signs across saying it was closed. The lights went green and he left hooked me, forcing me onto the pavement as he drove around the cones and sign to go up the closed road.
- 3 drivers on mobile phones
- Numerous cars close overtaking me at speeds well above the 30 MPH limit. One of them actually overtook me while I was doing 27 MPH and he flew past me at what I would guess was over 40MPH
During that time, which is a peak time for cyclists, I only filmed one cyclist going through a red light(though I did film roughly 20% of the cyclists I saw without lights)
The simple fact is that from all the evidence I see there are a lot more car drivers breaking laws than there are cyclists but cars going over the speed limit, using mobile phones or going through lights do not generate the same amount of hatred and animosity that cyclists going through red lights do.0 -

Not quite, my friend.;)
You talked about the difference, did you forget?. Namely the difference between drivers and cyclists.
I showed that in terms of reconciling offending behaviours to themselves, there is little difference between drivers and cyclists.
It's therefore hypocritical of most motorists to bleat about the offending behaviour of cyclists when they justify or condone their own significantly more dangerous driving negligence.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
My words.
""Differeence being, drivers accept that some idiots do these things but lots of cyclists are very reluctant to accept the cyclist is wrong.""
Your words.
""Every motorist breaks the speed limit, "" Really???
The impression this gives is that you think All Drivers are Bad
All cyclists are good .I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
