Lloyd's Bank gold account

Options
I have had this account for over 20 years. I have kept this package account recently mainly for the mobile phone insurance.
My registered phone was dropped in the toilet by my daughter, in my house. The claim was refused because the accident was caused by a third party. Two recommendations: don't give your phone to your children, don't bank with Lloyd's.

You shouldn't be surprised if you cannot claim on an insurance if your claim doesn't meet the T&Cs.

Do you expect insurers to pay out for excluded events?

Do you think your 20 years with Lloyds should change the T&Cs?

For what it's worth, many mobile policies exclude water damage.
  • sbal you are paying £12.95 (I think) for your mobile insurance - even the sharks from the mobile phone shops charge no more than a fiver.
Unless you also rely on the other gold benefits think about whether you want to continue with this account.

If you have not revised your banking in 20 years perhaps this is a wake up call.

For subsequent posters who will jump on this thread I see no MISSALE here at all LOL.
  • Wake up call indeed! Lloyd's have lost a customer

You realise that they don't care a lot about the occasional customer leaving?

Also, they do have one of the best current accounts in the industry right now, in the form of their Classic Account with Vantage, and their online banking is amongst the best. You could do a lot worse elsewhere.

How about yet another, the most important recommendation?

Read the T&C to know what you are paying for.

If you did, at least before claiming, I am sure it would have been you who dropped the phone, not your daughter.

To be fair, there seems to be nothing in the policy that excludes cover when a family member was involved. Quite the contrary.

The claims process is, however, riddled with obstacles. This seems to be the same for all mobile phone insurances, so you need to be very clued up if you hope to ever be able to make a successful claim.

A claim rejection on the ground that it was the daughter of the account holder who dropped the phone seems to be against the T&Cs and should be contested if all the required claim steps have been met.

However, I would just leave out unnecessary detail about who was on the toilet, where the toilet was etc.

If you have had an account like this for 20 or more years you probably don't pay a monthly fee.
