Private parking ticket fine from 'total parking soloutions' at University

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer any advice on this matter.

A couple of weeks ago when I arrived at my University campus I found that due to the limited number of spaces (caused by major campus construction) I wasn't able to find anywhere to park. In order to actually be able to attend my seminar I decided to take the initiative to park at the side of the car park as so many offer drivers had decided to do. The space where I parked, though not an official marked space caused no obstruction to other traffic/pedestrians/construction works so I hoped that this would be okay.

After returning from my seminar I found that I had received a ticket from a private parking ticket company, I was disgusted that as a measure I had taken simply to be able to attend a seminar which I pay nearly £4000 a year to do so, had resulted in me being charged £30.00.

I emailed the University who simply sent me back a standard email, badly copied and pasted from various standard paragraphs on their system. informing me that as I had not complied with the terms and conditions of my permit I was eligible to pay this fine. They also gave me some advice as to how maybe I should consider using an alternate transport method.. perhaps cycling? Despite the fact that I had already informed them in my email that I use a car to make my life easier, due to a medical condition which I have.

I tried to appeal to the parking company who simply ignored all of my points and said that I had to pay this fine. I have heard that these cases will not ever reach court, and that it is simply a case of ignoring it, but I'm wondering if this will impact upon my University life at all, or once this is in the hands of the private parking company is this a matter which they now deal with independently?

I am disgusted that my University actually employ a parking company to make money out of students in this way, especially in this case where no harm was caused at all, if anyone has any advice on the matter it would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to MSE!! Got a POPLA code in the rejection letter then?

Read the 'NEWBIES read this first' sticky thread at the top of the forum and read 'How to win at POPLA' which is one of loads of links I provided there for newbies to read...first!

also, its not a fine, never will be either, its a parking charge invoice for a perceived contravention or rule breaking, sometimes they do not even have the authority to issue it !!

so read the newbies thread as mentioned above, then decide what comes next, hopefully to get it cancelled or to successfully appeal it, or both
