LG DVD Recorder Region-Free Unlock Code Question

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have headed here thanks to the tips on how to unlock DVD players.

I have the LG DVD Recorder DRT389H and have found the right unlock codes, but I'm nervous to unlock it incase it messes up my recording settings etc. So the question I'm asking is, as long as I make notes of all the codes before changing anything, will the only change be in what region DVD's it'll play? It shouldn't, or rather more definitely, won't affect recording on the device as I do a lot of recording!
