Costs of underpinning

We have had some bad problems with a cracking wall and rotting floorboards caused by damp under the floor.
We asked a structural engineer to assess it and he has said that structural underpinning is urgently required. He couldnt give a figure for costs.
Has anyone done underpinning of internal walls (they hold up 25% of the weight of the roof as well as the top two floors of the house)?
Very roughly how much will I need to spend to do it well?

It isn't something you would normally fund yourself. Why haven't you got your insurance company involved? They would normally monitor it and pay for the work if they deem it necessary.
Depending on what needs doing it can run into tens of thousands, which is why underpinned properties can be quite hard to sell.0
