Make sure you won't be stung by early exit fees.

It's not their fault, it's OFGEM's. Useless shower of s**** that they are!

We all wanted simpler tariff's apparently...

I personally want cheaper prices but they seem to have forgotten to ask me :(

If you've got the same letter that I have, then you've got hold of the wrong end of the stick. The end of the DD discount is (as mentioned above), down to Ofgem. Instead EDF will give you a credit to the same value as the DD discount-from 31/12/13 through to the end of your fixed tariff (in my case, to April 2014).
They're simply getting round the regulator by describing the DD discount as something else.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Its the DF discount not the DD discount but the sentiment is still the same.

OP: The letter clearly states you will receive the full DF discount that you would be owed until the end of your tariff upfront in a one off payment instead of accruing it daily. You are actually better off because of this.

Correct, it's dual fuel discount, not DD discount. My typo.
Still can't work out how the OP has come up with their interpretation of that letter.

Easier to not read properly and have an unjustified rant.
  • Eon have also scrapped percentage discounts for duel fuel and direct debit payments and it takes effect in January. But they are being replaced by fixed amount discounts instead. Also you have to opt into Tesco clubcard points/high street vouchers to continue that benefit into the future.
Think it's all to do with bill simplification as ordered by HMG and Ofgem.

All suppliers are in the same boat

    Under RMR :
Payment type discounts must be built into either the standing charge or the unit rate (not both) and they must have the same effects £'s nation wide (i.e you can't use %'s)
Dual fuel discounts must be a flat £’s value per year accrued daily
Online/Paperless discounts must be a flat £’s value per year accrued daily

All other discounts are gone, including things like no mains gas & prompt pay

If you signed up to a tariff pre 1st July 2013 then your safe, if you signed up after then you r product needs to be changed to be RMR compliant by year end.
