New BMW - Gap Ins, Tyre Ins, detailing and Tracker
Options
Comments
-
Return to invoice cover - Both Hitachi and Click4Gap were cheaper than my BMW dealer.
Tyre insurance - I went with this for £100 from the dealer; this works out cheaper than one replacement of a run-flat tyre
Protection pack - the dealer demonstrated
(i) how good the interior protection was but no-one eats or drinks or smokes in my car
(ii) how smoothe the external finish was, but the normal unprotected finish felt good as well, plus to see the cars I had to walk past all their used BMWs - I couldn't see the difference between the used cars
Tracker - I would get this is I had a 7-series. But I have a 1-series and it's just not worth the money
If they offer finance, get a written example. I took my quote home to work through a spreadsheet of my own making and found the interest rate quoted to be rather misleading.0 -
Some great recommendations thanks. Gap and tyre insurance for £400 from car2cover is v appealling. Final piece of the jigsaw, anyone know where I can get a tracking system fitted at a competitive price? Or at least recommend a good system that allows monthly payment of the subscription.
On the deatailing front, I fancy a go at Zymol and might do it myself, have seen a kit for £105.0 -
I obtained a quote from Direct Gap ins, of £165 for £10k worth of cover for 5 years.
As for Supaguard, ask him to do it at cost, I did and got it for £250, worth every penny,I've had it done to 3 cars now and was worth it, much easier to keep my car clean, you should only have to clean your car with car shampoo though, and don't forget, that also covers the interior as well TE=peterg1965;discussion/484931]I have just signed a contract for a factory ordered BMW 335d M Sport Coupe. The dealer mentioned various additional products that seem to add a further £1000 or so to the invoice price! I am not keen to do this on what, is already, a very expensive car. The products are:
GAP Insurance - I am pretty savvy about this having brought before from Click4Gap. I will definately not buy the dealers product, it is far too expensive. Hitachi offer very competitive GAP which is cheaper than Click4Gap (even after cashback) and offers a flat £20,000 cover which is good. Cost would be £190 over 2 years (the maximum time I will keep the BMW). Has anyone else got any other suggestions? This is Return to Invoice cover By the way.
Tyre Insurance - Interested in looking at this on a car which has tyres that cost £250 each. Have seen a couple of internet companies (including an AA policy) but am keen to have a pay monthly policy. Again has anyone had an experience of this product and can recommend a provider? The dealer product I know will be bl***y expensive as they always are. Initial quote I have seen is an annual policy at £159, max 5 tyres to claim, excess £10, but no pay monthly.
Detailing - The dealer is offering Supaguard paint and interior protection for £299 (I think, it certainly will not be cheaper than this). I have had this before on a new car and am not sure if it is any good. Is it worth DIYing with a good aftermarket product (Zymol etc) or can anyone recommend a decent, competitive company in the North West which provides this service?
Tracker - This is not compulsory on my current insurance but is worth considering on such an expensive, valuable car. There are many products avaiable (Trackstar (RAC), Smartrack and Tracker to name but a few). Dealer is offering Tracker monitor for £399 + the annual subscription (£125). This isnt GPS based whereas RAC Trackstar at £299 is. Once again, anyone got any recommendation? What sort of Insurance premium reduction could I expect if I fitted a tracking device?
Thanks for any comments, advice you may be able to offer.[/QUOTE]0 -
if you buy any of them dont buy them through BMW they will want their cut
I wouldn't let a dealer anywhere near my car with detailing products, best finding a local firm if you insist. If the car is any good it should have the protection as standard surely0 -
Tracker, for a 1 series? No.
Besides, you can jam their signal anyway, so not really the deterrent it is sold as.0 -

Make sure you check the finer details of the Retunr to Invoice cover as many policies have a maximum payout, which is normally 105% of Glass's Guide.
If you are buying the BMW new you may want to consider Vehicle Replacement Insurance as the cost is not much more than RTI, however the cover is better.0 -
I didnt find BMW too bad I researched best price I could get for GAP Insurance and SMART Repair Insurance and refused to pay anymore.
At least having bought it from them if I dont get a good response I will hang around their showroom until they get me the response I want - they do good coffee these days.:beer:0
