laptop help needed

Until recently, I have always used pcs and laptops provided by work,
which have always come with programmes, security etc. already installed.
However now that I have retired, :j :j :j I need to buy my own laptop and go solo.
I only need it for surfing the net, internet banking, storing and editing photos and music and for my son's gaming.
I'm thinking of getting Aldi's Medion MD98200. Is this a good choice,
especially with regard to reliability, durability, value for money. ease of use etc.
Also what sort of security     will I need to install before I get started? Is the free stuff that you can get from the web good enough?
As you can tell, I am not very computer literate, so any help will be very gratefully received.
See this link for spec - [p=55450808]ClickHere[/post] or next but one post for the spec for this laptop. Oh and cost was about £550.

Recently purchased IBM Lenovo 3000 C200 a fortnight ago £304 delivered !!
from e-buyer via Google for £10 off. This includes the extra 512mb of ram I added to the shopping basket, that is simple to fit yourself.
My son reckons it's better than his Dell he got 5 months ago.

According to other computer help sites I read, the Aldi Medionis recommended, but personally I would go for a DELL. You can order on line or have a chat with someone over the phone0
