Do we owe solicitors anything?

Ftbs. We went through London and Country brokers, and they recommended Premier property lawyers. We went with them as we thought it would be simpler and we were assured they were on our lenders approved panel.
Anyway I have a vague recollection that our broker said he would "instruct" them for us.
Husband got a few calls at work that he was unable to answer or return. This was last Friday. So we found a number on our memorandum of sale (yeah the Ea knew the details before we did!) Called PPL yesterday and they insisted they sent us an email on the 6th. We checked and checked junk folder - nothing. Called them back and it was only when my husband asked.that they realised they had our email wrong - .co.uk instead of .com. (how this is possible when L&C had our email correct and passed.them on is beyond me, dont they know how to cut and paste?) So they said theyd send another email. Just checked and its useless, refering to login details they sent in a previous email.
(non existent) email. So already.we have 0 faith in this company. Then I see all the terrible reviews they have (mistakenly thought if this site recommends l&c then ppl would be ok too!)
Just found a local firm that gets good reviews on reallymoving.com. Going to ring them for a quote. My question is, will PPL try and charge us for anything even though they have done naff all and we haven't even signed anything?
Sorry this was so long winded. Typos are due to me tryping on my phone nightmare!

You haven't instructed them so they can't have done any work for you yet and cannot charge you anything. Just make sure that you tell tham, your mortgage broker and your estate agent who the new solicitors are.0

Thanks, I was worried that the broker could have instructed on our behalf.0

If you've not signed a contract, then they're on a sticky wicket and you can tell them to do one.
But just to be safe, send them an email confirming that you haven't instructed them or signed a contract.0 -
Premier property Lawyers are not solicitors, they are conveyancers :-)
But as others as have said, if you have not appointed them or signed anything then you don't owe them anything. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
