You're doom mongering again. Brilliant pattern for ages on unemployment, and all you can do is pour scorn and dubious 'facts' around that are meant to have us believe it's highly exaggerated.
Why can't you just accept that things are getting a whole lot better?
Thing is though Loughton, you won't look any further than the headline stat. Something which you are forever telling me I should look past when posting articles.
Secondly, it appears, once agian, you (and others) are completely unwilling to discuss it, favouring, once again, to ridicule posters. It's a bit like groundhog day, with two or three posters all trying to tell you the same thing, explaining at length and giving facts to back up what they are saying. The best you can do is try some, what you may think witty response to make the poster look stupid and yo udon't seem to have anything more than that.
I'm confident in what I'm saying without having to turn to ridiculing posters....are you?0 -
Why should we accept that things are getting better based on one statistic that says unemployment is falling?
We don't. Things are getting better using a whole host of different metrics.
Neither do we have to accept that the official measure of unemployment is the only stat that matters. It's only one proxy for what's happening in the economy and, used in conjunction with others, can be used to judge the nuances of the labour market.
However this thread has highlighted that some are unwilling to accept even official figures as a good starting point due to, not so subtle, inferences that they are either flawed or just made up. They'll only accept a measure that shows economic inactivity is rising because it fits in with their world view.
They've enjoyed the last few years when the same (strangely unquestioned) stats were showing a distinctly gloomy state of affairs but as soon as there's been a sniff of recovery have hit the dual personality button arguing both that things are still crap whilst pointing out the dangers of bubbles.0 -

No.
Everyone has accepted them. What people are looking at is how the figures have ended up where they are.
You are absolutely insistent on attaching a made up position to others.0 -

So do you accept that the overall employment and unemployment situation today is better than it was 12 months ago or not?
By 'better' I mean the following:
-Fewer people are unemployed
-More people are in full time employment
-Average wages have increased
-And in addition to the three key measures above, more people are able to find part time work, or get training positions, or whatever.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Yes, I accept that within the remit of what has already been pointed out by myself and others.
Not that you accept what others have stated. But I never assumed you would!0 -

Grizzly doesn't seem to accept them. Seemed very dismissive about any numbers from the ONS.grizzly1911 wrote: »CPI and RPI are whatever they want them to be.
I believe that you're in denial about what recovery there has been which is why you argue about minutiae before facing the elephant in the room - hundreds of thousands of jobs have been created. I also think you don't want a recovery because house prices haven't fallen to a level that meets with your satisfaction.
This isn't me attaching a made up position to you - it's an opinion formed by interpreting the words you write on this forum. You do the same and are free and easy in sharing your own opinions and judgement so why shouldn't I?0 -

So then what are you getting worked up about?
Things are getting better. More people are employed full time, more people are employed part time or getting training, fewer people are unemployed.
If your argument is that there's still some way to go, and further improvements to be had, nobody is disagreeing with you....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Au contraire :-
"The "statistics" show unemployment is dropping and the economy is growing - I can now sleep soundly.
I actually entered the discussion regarding CPI. That is also dropping, apparently, so all is well.
House prices are rising too."
Just remember what the condom makers are saying to those on the Indian sub continent.
It isn't the amount it is the quality.;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

That contradicts what exactly?
Unless my irony detector is faulty you're simply confirming, using the wonderful medium of sarcasm, that you are somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to official data.0 -

Slight suggestion to your post.
Many people can afford the repayments and are overpaying to reduce them.
By doing this, they are easing the time when rates eventually will rise.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.
