Laptop or Notebook recommendations

Years ago, I built my own PC's and was into tech in a big way buying the latest hardware. Over the years as priorities of life change, I am no longer wanting the very latest tech and make do with what I have got until it breaks or becomes unusable. I know how tech works, but are not up with the latest devices. However, friends and relatives seem to think I am the tech guy they can call up at any time to answer all their problems and advise on computers, dvd recorders, TV's etc.

Today I have been asked what I would recommend in a laptop/notebook/netbook that does not cost too much, and to be used mainly for uploading and updating an iPod with occasional web browsing, as they use their phone mainly for surfing the web. So it must be cheap and allow iTunes to be installed and connect to an iPod.

I do not think Chromebooks would work, but could be wrong. Any ideas welcome. The simpler the better as I do not want to spend nights trying to copy files and configure the thing.

Thanks for the replies. I think they want it as cheap as possible, mainly use their phone for email and browsing, just needed to sync iTunes to iPod and occasional browsing. Been out the loop for years so not up-to-date with the latest cpu etc.

Will forward the info on to them.
