I'm actually guilty of saying things like "Thank you for the lovely giveaway" or "Thank you for the competition" - mainly because I do think it's lovely (especially of the smaller companies) to giveaway prizes no matter how big or small. Okay I "get" that they get advertisement from it too but I still think it's nice of them so I say soA closed mouth gathers no feet.0 -
The comments don't bother me people are just trying to be nice and say thank you, yes the ones using really bad sob stories go way to far and I'd never use illness or death of a family member to try and win a comp. If you don't like them don't read any and just pass on by.

I agree - and to be honest, I doubt very much the sobbsters get chosen to win, as companies aren't stupid and probably know they are made up most of the time!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
You should know by now you are only allowed one account. If your account gets banned then a company cannot notify you if you win so you lose out all ways! Sorry but Facebook can probably see that you keep opening different accounts by your IP number! Silly!:(0

I suspect there's a certain amount of shares beyond which facebook's 'spam detection software' kicks in. In my original 'compers account' I allowed every comp I entered to 'share' after I'd entered the contest, it felt the polite thing to do :-) and I suspect the 30-ish shares a day this resulted in led to warnings then a 1 month ban on liking/sharing.
Now I hit cancel on such boxes, it doesn't affect the entry in any way. And I've had no warnings whatsoever *crosses fingers* - the only times I share now are when a comp specifically asks for a post to be shared. And in theory that should be fine, after all you are actually allowed to share things on facebook! :-)0 -
I've just liked and shared half a dozen competitions and had to verify my account, so daren't do any more for a while or I'll probably get a ban (as happened last time).
I rarely like and share but thought I'd try some today what with there being loads of comps ending.
What I want to to know is, how do some compers spend their days liking and sharing dozens of comps, but they escape bans?! I'm doing nothing different to them ....:mad:0 -

Wish I knew! I have been blocked a few times - once for 60 days and another time for 30 days (and I rode the bans out both times and didn't attempt to set up another account). I also have friends on Facebook that share dozens of times a day - even when they are not required to share or to win something like a bar of chocolate - and the have never been banned or had a warning! So I too would love to know how they get away with it!
I am careful now and only enter like and share comps if the prize is worth the risk of a warning or ban! And if a company just requires a like on the competition post to be entered than that is all I do. Luckily I have not had any warnings over the Festive period but I have made sure that I have spread my likes and shares out throughout the day - so never all at once.
I really don't like Facebook and if it wasn't for me entering Apps, Rafflecopters and the odd like and share I would not even bother with it. The fact that no one can contact Facebook to compromise/put forward their case if they get banned really annoys me. And I hate the way they keep changing settings without notifying users. They ban users for liking and sharing yet they don't close the company pages down for running such comps. My Christmas message to Facebook......Bah Humbug:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
I really do not know what is going on with Facebook.
Following my other thread re stories not appearing on my newsfeed (I did fire off a few reports re this) it does seem to have improved. However, I have all my friends in different groups ie school, work, competitions etc. All my comp friends I had it set up so that their posts do not appear on my wall. I have noticed these last few days they are back showing on my wall, yes all these spammy like and shares. So, you now have this "Unfollow" little button which I have now selected and it tells me I will not see any more posts from XYZ. It doesn't work :mad::mad: For the last three days I have been "unfollowing" but yet their posts continue to spam my timeline. The best things in life are free.....0 -

Me too! I posted about a week ago about my feed problems. I created an 'Advent' group/list so I could just see posts by companies running daily Advent comps, and half of them weren't showing in the feed, even though I was 'following' them and they were showing in my 'Advent' group/list! I had a look on their community help pages and it seems loads of users are complaining about similar feed issues. It is so frustrating and I ended up giving up on half the Facebook Advents because I didn't have time to visit each page individually to check out their Advent comp posts.:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0
