Direct debit

I paid my fees by direct debit, to make my account £0. Then 3 days later ebay automatically take the same amount out of my bank "Direct Debit Payment -- Automatic Monthly Billing -- Thank You". Why have they done this? and are they going to keep taking money every month. My balance is now minus £12.40. How do i stop the direct debit? and will ebay pay that 12.40 back to me?

If there's been a mistake you're covered by the DD guarantee. Take it up with your bank who should refund you. They'll then contact ebay for reimbursement.~A mind is a terrible thing to waste on housework~0

Why not contact EBay first. Or if you are listing more this month you have a credit. A pain I know but, I doubt I would be bothered phoning bank on an 08700 number.
EBay are usually ok on this so a small error but is it worth busting a gut for?0 -
Although https://www.saynoto0870.com might help if it gets larger0

Sure, I understand it isnt a large amount. However what gives ebay the right to deduct money that isnt owed to them?
I have sent them an email requesting it to be credited back to me. I just get sick of ebay. If i was to be listing anything then i'm in credit, but i aint listing anything.
Update
this is the reply from ebay- "Due to the various policies and procedures within the banking
institutions we work with, the refund process may take up to 60 business
days to complete."
So where will this money be for 60 days? in ebays account!?0 -
I suggest you tell your bank to refund the money - they'll do it within a day with no questions asked. They may well also backdate it so you're not charged fees for being overdrawn (if applicable).0

With most automatic DD arrangements, the automatic payment is taken irrespective of whether your manually pay the amount. This applies to many credit cards. Why did you pay it manually, when you had a DD set up?
I think it's your mistake, not theirs, to be honest.0 -
You said it.With most automatic DD arrangements
Ebay sent me an email about 3 days before i paid the fees (manually) saying final reminder (or something like that). With the previous months dd failing (maybe cos the bank hadn't sorted it in time for ebays dd date) i thought it would be best to just pay.0 -

I beg to differ. The eBay Direct Debit is variable, so they have to check the amount owed before requesting it from your bank (although I suspect this would be automatic). I have paid my bill slightly early in the past on several occasions, even though I have a DD facility, but this is because I sometimes have money in my PayPal account that I want to use, rather then getting charged for withdrawing it to my bank account first.
Just because you have a DD facility with them, it doesn't mean you must only use that method, it's just a safeguard.
I think if eBay are trying to take money that has already been paid, it can only be their fault...0 -
Probably a slight overlap, DD was processed and you paid inbetween happened to me once and left me owed a few pounds didn't bother me as I just run up some fees and went back to zero2p off is still 2p off!0
