Christmas Donations

I dont have much family or really buy into Christmas, so this time of year is normally a quiet time to chill after a hectic year at work.
After a shopping trip in my local supermarket i overheard a young girl, no older than 6 ask her mum if Santa was going to visit this year. Her mum said maybe before turning to her friend to explain that last year they didnt have christmas presents and this year they couldn't afford to buy anything either. This made me think a bit and touched me that a child can't enjoy the magic of 'Santa'.
Whilst i dont have kids or much family, i have been blessed with a well paid job, i dont need much i only have myself to look after.
So I've been out today and spent some time buying toys and presents that i thought younger people might enjoy a mixture of all sorts of things footballs, toys dolls, lego things etc. I've no idea if it is any good but now i've got all this stuff i have no idea what to do with it or where to take it. Has anyone got any suggestions?
i have put labels on the gifts as 'boy/girl' and the age on the gift and wrapped them up as best i can.

I can't think of anywhere off the top of my head but just wanted to say what a lovely thing you're doing.

Might be worth posting what area you're in, that way people can suggest places local to you?

  • Our local hospital have taking present donations to give out to patients on the wards, same as the local childrens hospice fund.
  • You could contact your local free paper or radio station - they will usually know what appeals are taking place.

Otherwise your local church will usually know of a few families that could do with some help, or the health visiting team (they aren't likely to give you any details but might be able to pass things on).

Is Regents Arcade anywhere near you?

  • I rang around one year and finally spoke to someone who works with the local domestic violence unit, they gave us the office address to drop them off and they came out to speak to us (very suspicious, sadly understandable). I was really shocked to hear how many women/families they were supporting in surrey and it was nice being able to help them in any way, however small.

Also check local radio, they often team up with charities to do a presents collection for underprivileged families.

    What a wonderful gesture.

Is there no charitable scheme in your workplace? Perhaps you could start one next year? We do a kids party with Santa grotto etc in a local deprived area. It's a great experience to be involved in.
