Co-OP energy refund?

So here's the thing, we used co-op energy earlier this year as they were the cheapest at the time, we've since changed to another provider, however I received my bill on line as usual last month and it stated that we were £1600 in credit, they mucked up our gas readings from the beginning, they tried to charge us for a meter which didn't belong to us, we brought this to their attention and they said they would investigate it but as expected we heard nothing. Anyways when I asked about the credit amount they didn't know why the amount had been given and was being passed to management, this was 3 weeks ago roughly and I've heard nothing although I have been pestering them with emails asking for updates. My question is really are we entitled to this credit amount, I've just checked and it's still listed on our account.

Have you paid for the gas used - plus a further £1600? Seems a lot in less than a year.

If it's an administrative error, no I wouldn't say you're entitled to it.

You should only pay for the energy you've used. It's relatively simple, end meter reading minus opening meter reading * tariff. If you've overpaid, they owe you the difference.

Write a letter (don't call) with a heading COMPLAINT. Explain fully what's happened. If you still have your meter readings then it should make it much easier.
