Starting a PPI claim

Hi folks,
The information on beginning the process of making a claim from your bank / credi facility has been really useful, however, I'm not sure if I'm entitled to it.
I was sold my credit card as part of my bank account package to me when I was 18. I am now 26, I didn't use the C/Card until I was 21.
It is through my mobile banking that I notice that I am charged each month with "insurance premium" - is this PPI??? Is it claimable??
I cannot remember whether I opted in for this insurance, how it was sold to me or what it meant at that time, nor do I think I have any of the associated paperwork that came with it. I think I was just super excited to have a debit card and be able to use my money that way at that time!
Further to this, my bank name has changed since I joined from Northern Bank to Dankse Bank, but my account has remained the same, not sure if this makes a difference?
Any thoughts would be most appreciated. I do apologise for a lack of information but, although I suspected I may be entitled to it I didn't really understand the process which seems so scary!
Thanks so much anyway

If you are borrowing on the card (i.e. not paying it off each month) then it is probable it is PPI. As for whether you have grounds for complaint, we cant say. Nothing in your post suggests you do. So, what would your complaint reasons be?Further to this, my bank name has changed since I joined from Northern Bank to Dankse Bank, but my account has remained the same, not sure if this makes a difference?
No difference.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi dunstonh,
Thanks for your reply.
I cannot remember if it was really missold to me. I'm not sure at all how it was sold to me. "complaint" is quite a powerful word, I don't know that I want to make a complaint so much as investigate how it was sold to me and cancel it. I work full time in a permanent position and have been employed since I opened my account, so I suppose that I'm actually paying for nothing.
Thanks again for your response.0 -
Its insurance, if you feel you don't need it, cancel it.
Do you have the original paperwork, that's the way you would find out how it was sold to you.
If you cant remember it being sold, you also wouldn't be able to remember it being miss sold and you would have to have provable evidence to make a complaint.
Having company sick pay wouldn't mean that it wasn't suitable for you. So no miss sale there.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
This makes it awkward because you need to show why you believe it was missold.kirifruit87 wrote: »I cannot remember if it was really missold to me.
If you complain you are actually alleging that someone did something wrong when they sold you the policy.I'm not sure at all how it was sold to me. "complaint" is quite a powerful word
You can simply phone them up and cancel.I don't know that I want to make a complaint so much as investigate how it was sold to me and cancel it.
What about if you lost your job?I work full time in a permanent position and have been employed since I opened my account, so I suppose that I'm actually paying for nothing.
I have various insurance policys and hope I ever have to claim on them - that's insurance . . .0 -

Hi all,
Thanks so much for the great replies - I hadn't checked in in a little while.
This was all prompted following a guy in work encouraging me to investigate it following his own successful claim.
I definitely don't plan on complaining without proper evidence. I don't think I have the paperwork for it, it really was such a long time ago (even though I am a hoarder), I'll certainly do a reki in my filing cabinet.
You're right, I could lose my job, that's always a possibility, but it's a risk I might take. Maybe.
I can see through the link that -taff provided that the bank may have sales details of my insurance. There's an avenue I could explore.
I guess it answers my question:
- Is this insurance - yes
- can I claim it back - unknown whether it was missold.
Thanks so much
