Mortgage company wont let me pay my arrears

I have arrears on my mortgage account £2099, the Mortgage company is applying for a reposession order and I have a court date of 08.01.14 I have phoned today to pay off the arrears in full and have been told they will not accept the payment with out proof of where the money came from, not until I have sent all the evidence they need will they accept full payment. How ridiculous!!is this should I ring their solicitor to tell them I have tried to make payment?

I would guess it's so they know it's not a pay day loan and just staving of the inevitable.

Quite the opposite - any bank would be delighted in such circumstances if a borrower took out loans elsewhere to pay down the balance on its outstanding debt!

The requestion for "source of funds" is almost certainly to do with the bank trying to comply with increasingly tight "anti money laundering rules".
  • thats all well and good but how am I supposed to pay them if they wont take the cash any suggestions

Are you able to provide the requested proof of where the money comes from?
  • What evidence have they asked for.
Can you not find that out and then send a cheque recorded delivery with the evidence in the same envelope?

What's the issue with telling them? Have you lied to them previously? Or is the source of the funds merely deferring the envitable.

Now is not the time to be playing games.
  • No there is no problem, and no I have not lied to them in the past! Only problem is getting my ex to send info through too. I have no problem sending everything I have through at all, but want to make the payment ASAP, the cash is there you would think they would be more than happy to take it off my hands

Oh well, the Halifax must be different to all the other banks then when I queried this for a family member.
