PLEASE HELP. Old debt resurfaced.

I have a very old debt that was statute barred over two years ago. I fired off the SB letter to a company ages ago and heard no more. I just recieved an alert from equifax from robinson way (a new company) who have searched my file and entered a 'new credit agreement on my file, although I have never had contact with them. Can they do this? I don't have any agreement with them at all and the last company wrote to me and confirmed that they had closed the file in light of my SB letter I sent them.
I have worked so so hard to repair my credit file and then this happens. What can I do , or write to sort this? can I get the search or 'new credit agreement taken off my file?
please help

Have they put a new default on then or just done a search?

I think its just a search and then they added a new credit agreement on my file. I only have alerts on my equifax CF so will have to call to check. Could I send a SB letter with an added sentance stating that I demand the search and credit agreement be removed from my file?
  • Check what they put on there first.

Could also check noddle for free as well.

But yes, if they have added a new default you would need to complain to get it removed.

Really confused now as I had an alert to tell me they had done a search and that a new credit agreement had been recorded on my file with them.
I rang equifax and they gave me another free 30 days credit report access and apart from a soft trace search they did, there is no new account with them at all, and now the alert has disappeared 😕.
There's nothing on there at all ?! I've checked noddle and nothing in there whatsoever.
Do I just fire off the SB letter again?
  • Personally, I would wait. If they traced you, they will likely write to you, then you can dispatch the prove it/SB letter.

while your here mate, I had a default put on my account 5 years ago (nearly 6 now) by a bank and since then 3 "companys" who took on the debt have all placed defaults on my files for the orginal debt and i haven't even spoke to any of them, is this ok?

If they changed the default date that is not allowed.

They are not allowed to do that.

You need to check your credit file across all 3 agencies so you know who put it there.

Robinson are a DCA so if they have added something you need to dispute that and get it removed. You might also want to report them to the ombudsman too.
