Cat urine on chipboard flooring

Hi,

We have moved into a house that needs two new bathrooms. The main bathroom had carpet down. The previous owner had a cat and the main bathroom was the location for its litter tray. The room stank of cat wee, so up came the carpet.

The floorboards in one corner appear to have been penetrated with the cat wee. So the smell never goes away.

I have read on this forum that saturating the board in a biological washing powder solution is a good move. Are there any other suggestions?

I am considering putting ceramic tiles on the bathroom floor, is it possible the smell could still come through once the new floor is down?

Finally it may be a big job, but should I just replace the chipboard floorboard?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Bernard

Try lots and lots of bicarb of soda, sprinkle on and leave for a couple of days, otherwise make a solution of washing soda and scrub with this and allow to dry. The smell should be gone.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
  • I know this wont get rid of the urine but if i've ever had a bad smell in a room I leave a tin of paint open & that usually disguises it!

    Hi Bernard
It's not a good idea to soak chip board ,if it gets to wet it will swell and in the worst case, start to disintegrate. Be careful how wet you get it
