Contacting Companies via Twitter - experiences?

Options
In the last few years I've had some great comments and many issues resolved with companies by using twitter. A few examples include:
  • A commendation at work for a comment a customer left about me on twitter
  • A thank you from Scotrail for praising their employee for his service
  • A monetary gesture of goodwill from Scottish Gas for not turning up on several occasions

I also know of someone who got their disabled nephew the work experience placement he was promised (by a Canadian coffee chain after the manager kept messing him around) by complaining on twitter.

Has anyone else had any good/bad experiences by using twitter to praise, vent or complain?

  • Yup! Had an issue with Virgin Media, a little grumble on twitter and they were fantastic. Problem solved. Excellent service.

This comes down to the old adage of people with bad experiences telling more people than if they had good service.

The bad service is amplified to more than just close friends if it is on twitter or facebook, so they have to be seen to resolve them.

This site has had similar experience in the past, albeit on a smaller scale, as can be seen with the company representatives on here.
  • Yes I have had some excellent responses in the past from companies such as Virgin Media, New Look, Truffle Shuffle, Tesco and Phones4U on Twitter.

It's similar to complaining on here, many firms are straight on the case (although the cynic in me believes it's as much to remove the problem from public view in many cases).

I had a good response from Lipsy and a gift card from them to say sorry when I complained that they had messed up my online order (I ordered some size 16 tracksuit bottoms and they sent me size 6  I i wish :p)

I've moaned at a number of companies on Twitter, and it seems to get the problem dealt with quickly, and escalated to the right team (if necessary), to look at.

All good except Seabrooks Crisps who seem to ignore any negative comments on their twitter/facebook page.
