Need a survey when buying a doer-upper?

Quick opinions needed. Do you think a homebuyer's survey is worth the ££, if you are buying a very regular leasehold flat in a very well-maintained mid-rise block, and you're already going into it knowing that you need to completely refurbish the place (as in totally gut it, rewire/heat/glaze/replaster/re-floor etc etc)?
In this case I know there's nothing structural that would be relevant; there are identical flats both above and below, and there's nothing of the existing flat that would remain, save from the external walls... so is there anything a survey could tell me?
I know common-sense dictates that the cost of a survey is peanuts compared to the hundreds-of-thousands you're spending... but this has a high probability of falling through (being realistic. It's probate and there is much evidence of nearby gazumping for similar nearby probates and repos), and besides, I would need every single penny spared for the 'doing up' part!
