Getting kids to like pizza

  • I used to hate pizza too, up until the age of 14 when it was all on offer at a sleepover. I can clearly remember crying aged about 6 because I wanted a sticker that was in the box but my parents told me I couldn't have it unless I tried some pizza! I'm now 28 and have it once a week as a night off from cooking!

I always hated ketchup (and still do) and I think I thought the tomato sauce would be like ketchup. I agree with the other advice, let them make their own and hopefully they'll see its just a combination of things they do like and be more willing to try it.

start off small, slice some muffins in half and let them put their own toppings on them, if they like that, have a go at making your own dough
  • Thanks everyone. The breadmaker is coming out of retirement once my dad gets it out of the loft tomorrow, so might try and make some dough over the Xmas holidays and they can put their own toppings on.

  • I like pizza but only if its a really thin and crispy base. If it is deep pan it is too doughy and tastes like stale bread or if it is thin but floppy it tastes uncooked!

only the asda frozen veg pizza or the thin and crisy stonebake from the deli match my exacting standards - Trust me I have tried them all!

I must admit I can't see a problem I don't like it much either and never have it at home, whereas my DGS all love it,but to me its just a flat bit of pastry with stuff on top I'm not bothered and would rather eat something else, but then I'm not keen on burgers either or hot dogs.maybe because I grew up without them so what you don't have you never miss.I used to make them for my DDs when they were younger but I'd rather have a decent sandwich.I also don't like tomato ketchup, so maybe its the ketchup they don't like

Not all pizzas are unhealthy. Homemade pizzas with plenty of vegetables can be quite a well balanced meal!
  • I think my problem is more the fact that my girls don't seem to want to eat anything other than a few choice things.

Just want them to get a bit of variety.

They must be getting bored of the same old meals that I keep trotting out, but I have no idea what else to try them with.

I realise some people eat pizza with their fingers and some with a knife and fork. My 3 year old grandson hates sticky/dirty fingers and says he hates pizza. but if we all sit down and eat it with a knife and fork, he tucks in. just a thought
