ebay buyer wanting refund??

so I sold a phone on ebay that i got off a friend for just over £200

the buyer then sent me a message a week later to say the phone was blocked-stolen/lost

I agreed to the phone being sent back for a refund as i couldn't be sure it wasn't blocked as it wasn't originally mine

when the phone arrived it wasn't the same phone.......

the screen was fixed (it was sold with a cracked screen)

the case was gone

the sim card that had been left in in was gone

some photos that had accidently been taken on it by my 5 year old were wiped

im convinced its not the same phone but can't prove it as i didn't write down the IMEI number (stupid i know!)

the guy says he fixed the screen and and threw away the case. he says he used the phone for 2 days before it got blocked.

i'd had the phone off my friend for 2 weeks prior to selling it and it worked fine when i sent it off. i know of no reason why it would be blocked-if that's the truth

he has now opened a case with ebay and i'm quite sure ebay will refund him as they seem all on the buyers side

any advice on what i can do?

tia

  • If the phone was on contract, the provider would wait until 2 monthly payments were missed, before blocking the phone.

Maybe your friend stopped paying the contract, and sold you the phone, you said you only had it 2 weeks, so not impossible that it worked when you had it, but is blocked now.

Not much except you have learnt a few lessons.

Dont sell items you have not checked out 100%.

Take detailed photo's of the item especially detailed ones with the serial numbers etc.

Even closeup of the screws so you can campare the direction they face to see if its been opened.

Ebay will refund them and you lose. Unless you get the funds back from your friend / ex friend.
