Credit defaults

Hi
We have 2 credit defaults. Both are mobiles, one for £27 other for £60(this should only be about 25).
Is it worth our while paying them off, and will we be able to fix our credit score if we do
thanks

  • You would have been better off paying them before they went to defaults as now they'll be on file for 6 years and you'll struggle to get any kind of credit. It's a shame for such small amounts.

Paying them off will look a tad better than not paying them though. However it won't 'fix' your credit rating as you'll still have the defaults on file.

Pay them off. As the pain will last far longer if you don't.

They will be on your file for 6 years from the date of default as shown on file.

If they are paid off then they will show as satisfied defaults for the remainder of that 6year term. Settled defaults look a little better than unsettled but still would be considered bad news by mainstream lenders.

  • What are the default dates?

  • Default date is 7/2013 and 02/2012

The 07/2013 one is wrong. This was for a phone that was purchased , but did not have what the sales person said it did. Shop acknowledged this , cancelled the contract and said there would be no bill. We got a bill ,took it back to shop who said they would deal with it, Just found out now we have a default over it .
Will try tomorrow to get it sorted, Can the phone company cancel this default easily?

In fact the defaults are for £12 and £23.....What a dafty I am

I know it's a little late to say it, but whilst you had the right to return within 7 days, you would still have been liable for the airtime when the phone was in your possession.

Speak to them, and see how you get on.

  • Yes they can cancel it. You need to complain, in writing, detailing the issues and what they said would be done to correct the problem.

Less likely to get messed around and you have a paper trail if you need to go to the ombudsman.

Why did the other one happen?

  • Thanks for help.

I cannot remember what the second one was about, but it was at the time we changed phone providers

Ckh- I know in regards to the 7 days, but company did say no bill, as we could not use some of the services. It is a £12 bill for the 8 days we had it. The phone would have been taken back the next day,but shop said it was a problem with the activation code so another one was sent out, then when that did not work we got advice(wrong) from the telephone helpline. We eventually found out about the lack of services and took it back next day
