Closed account with Scottish Power still in Credit
Hi all
Just after a bit of friendly guidance on the following...
I switched from Scottish Power to EDF on both Gas and Electric
I provided meter readings to EDF when asked for them
The accounts went live with EDF on 31/10/13 for Electricity and 08/11/13 for Gas.
Looking at my (now closed) Scottish Power account it seems I am £290.04 in credit. Obviously I would like to get my hands on my money (don't care if it is refunded or put in credit to EDF)
I called Scottish Power a week or so ago and was told that EDF had not supplied readings. So, I called EDF, who obviously claimed they had as the accounts were now live.
Just called Scottish power again, and girl on the end on the phone once again stated that it was up to EDF to supply final readings and that I cannot supply them myself (I assume they need to be verified by EDF - fair enough)
So, called EDF again, only to be told they had sent the readings on 26/11/13 for Electricity and 18/11/13 for Gas (I did comment quite strongly that I was not impressed with the delay in sending the readings to Scottish Power - but at least they have gone)
However, I seem to be going backwards and forwards to each supplier. Scottish Power say it's EDF's problem and EDF say it's not their problem because it was my account with Scottish Power....
So, my question is:-
How long should it take to get my credit back from Scottish Power?

I'm having a complete nightmare with SP.
I too moved to EDF with similar dates as yours. Have you had your final bills yet? Did you get separate bills for Gas and Electricity like me?
I have only had the final electricity bill which is £49 in debit and they are going to take payment on 25th December even though I know that I am well in credit with my gas.
I've also got something a section on my bill entitled "other charges" to the amount of £14 odd. I've no idea what this is all about. Definitely worth checking and double checking your bills.

Send them your details, I did and so have several others whom have also been having problems with their switch/getting a refund. I had a refund within a week of using the email address, far quicker than calling them.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
Hi, I switched my own and my mothers supplier from ScottishPower and it took 7 weeks from the switch date for the them to refund the credits on the accounts.
The direct debits were left in place and the money paid into our bank accounts. In your case it cannot be transferred to EDF.0 -
switched from SP on 25/11/13 got a final electric statement 10 days ago saying we were in credit , got cheque but we were dual fuel no mention of gas we were in credit a total of £221.Tried to ring today a joke finally got a call back and girl said can't find my account details so gave them a ref from a DD they had taken from my account on 16/12/13 no system doesn't recognise that either.so she said I will go onto old system please wait then was cut off. awaiting call back.I think it is illegal that SP have set up another DD and taken money out of my account without my authorisation. They are not our energy suppliers.:mad:0

Having left a property which was supplied by SP, I received my refund cheque in the post about a week since sending them the final meter reading.0

The moral of the story is it's best to keep your account slightly in debit and avoid building up credit balances, they are not going to pay you interest on it; or it seems quickly give it back.
There are ways of managing your DD to make sure this doesn't happen. Yes you'll have to square it with them in the end, but better that than you having to chase them for your money back as often seems to be the case in this cruddy industry, which is run in the interests of shareholders and not the consumer.0 -
According to Audrey Gallacher, Director of Energy at Consumer Futures on this moneybox programme (at 2 minutes 50 seconds) the billing code, that the major suppliers are signed up to, means you should be refunded credit within 28 days of leaving the old company. I can't find any verification of that 28 days by the way.
The whole item is worth listening to and starts at 40 seconds into the programme. It includes an example of someone else switching from Scottish Power having problems in getting their refund.
I would put in a complaint to Scottish Power about their not refunding credit within 28 days.
I am having the same problem with EDF on switching to Npower. They aren't refunding me my credit although I switched last month. They said they didn't have my electricity read even though I gave it to Npower promptly last month. Ring up Npower and eventually get them to phone through the figure to EDF. Ring up EDF they say they haven't got my electricity read. I say it was phoned through yesterday. They say yes it was but they can't use that they need to wait until it is sent through. Complaint registered with EDF.I came, I saw, I melted0 -
