Sandtander basic current account credit check?

Options
I'm in desperate need of opening a proper bank account now after being discharged from bankruptcy in june.

Barclays and halifax have declined me not surprisingly because i had small debts with them when i went bankrupt.

I applied for co op cashminder account and got declined also, even without a credit check!

Someone told me Sandrander offer a basic account with no credit checks, can anyone varify this for me, as i will go into the bank tomorrow with passport and confirmation of address.

Thanks

You won't be able to open any current or savings account in this country without the provider undertaking a search of credit reference agency files.

Even a basic 'ID enquiry' search returns "public information", which includes bankruptcy and CCJ details.

There are some providers who take discharged bankrupts (can't remember which, but take a look at the moneymadeclear website?).

Seem to remember you had another thread running on this subject? Were you asked then (if not, I'm asking now) if you'd viewed your CRA files? Additionally, have you a CIFAS marker on your file?
  • Funny that because i opened up a natwest instant access savers account today with my passport, and letter confirming my address.

Barclays is the only one that accepts bankrupts now, as for discharged bankrupts i was just on the phone to natwest and they said i could go into the branch with a discharged letter confirming i'm no longer bankrupt, and they will open up a basic current account.

So was just wondering if sandtander do a credit check? As barclays don't for their basic account.

And nope, dont have any CIFAS markers at all.

The guy who i spoke to on the phone from Natwest, advised me they'll do a credit reference search that will come up with all my info, inc that I AM bankrupt, but it wont say i'm discharged hence why i have to somehow find a discharge letter from somewhere

Why is it funny? Are you saying they didn't check with a CRA that you didn't have any CIFAS markers, CCJs, etc? If so I don't believe you. :)

After making an ID enquiry, yes. Not just on having sight of your paperwork.

You need to understand the difference between a search tagged "application type: current account" and a search tagged "ID enquiry". Do you?

I received an application pack in the post from natwest. I was told to tale in 2 types of ID. I did so, and they opened the account there and then. I dont think any sort of check was done.

When I opened my Barclays cash account they just did an unrecorded enquiry and an identity check.

Every bank will search your credit report, even if you are only opening a savings account. What they do with that information afterwards is dependant on the bank and the product you are requesting.

Most banks will not let someone walk in off the street and apply for a bank account without a search. The others require something solid, like a photocard driving license or passport (and they'll still try and do a search).
