HPL registered my car to someone else!

Hi,
I bought my car from HPL motors in Atherton and I thought the service was really good at the time. I now however have an issue!
The salesman filled out my new keeper supplement with someone else's details on and I only found out when I chased up the document with the DVLA who informed me that they have recently sent out a new log book on the 26 September 2013 but it isnt registered to me and cannot tell me who it is registered too!
They have effectively de-valued my car by adding another keeper and it is December now and I still dont have my log book. Before you ask, I have filled out a copy with the post office and sent it off a couple of weeks ago, but that isnt the point. HPL have not really been very helpful and they wont tell me what happened and what they are doing to resolve the matter!
What should I do?
Thanks

Ask the garage to write an apology letter explaining the mix up, send that with a copy of your invoice for the car purchase to the DVLA and see if they can reduce the number of previous owners but unless this is a brand new or very low mileage rare car, another owner isn't going to make much if any different to the resale value of it."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0

Foxy Stoat's advice is good.
I'd also suggest don't be too quick to blame the dealer, DVLA make plenty of mistakes themselves (they changed the colour and iirc model of my car when I handed the form over at one of the counters to get the tax class changed)0 -
The new keeper part of the V5 is normally filled out and signed by the new keeper.
Why did you allow the seller to fill this in on your behalf? All your base are belong to us.0 -
Every time I have bought a car, the dealer does this not the new owner. Only time I have known it to be done by the new owner is when it is an older car. But to be honest it is in the best interest of the previous owner to send it off in case there are any speeding fines etc done by new keeper.
Thank you to the others who replied, I have sent them an email asking for an official statement as to what has happened. DVLA checked the form and said they had the details copied over from the doc so looks like it was Hpl that made the mistake.
Thanks again all0 -

Not necessarily.
I saw the docs the dealer sent off with OH's (ex demo) car, and DVLA managed to log the car as silver (not black). Dealers docs were definitely sent, listing it as black and it took a number of calls/letters to get sort it out.
Carry on pushing, and it will be sorted.

Yeah, the previous owner should always send it off regardless but the new keeper part needs to be signed by the new keeper before it can be sent off. It's on the same page as the new keepers name and addressAll your base are belong to us.0 -
