I've just received a letter from BC&W saying they're trying to get hold of me regarding a private matter and want me to confirm my address. After reading these threads I am unsure of what step to take?

I can the see the debt they are chasing up is with n power because the client ref matches with my account number. I have £850 debt with n power and paid £20 a month ago, I'm wondering if n power passed on my new details?

I want to pay the debt through n power and not BC&W, how do I go about this? I'm worried about writing to either of them in case they exchange details of my new address as I haven't confirmed it with BC&W.

I paid the £20 to n power through my account online.

I'm feeling quite anxious about this & don't know what to do.

I paid the £20 to n power through my account online. I haven't phoned n power to discuss this, I just paid £20 off which I know isn't a lot but it was all I could afford at the time.

I'm feeling quite anxious about this & don't know what to do. Do I write to n power saying I want to pay it off through them? Will they confirm my address details are correct with Buch if I do this?

    Thanks

If you want to pay then just pay Npower.

  • Ok thank you - if n power say I have to deal with Buch now do I just be firm and say I'm dealing through you (n power) only? Do I deal with this over the phone with n power or letter? I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks.
  • I'm not sure which is the right way to deal with it?

npower have probably sold the debt on, as they have every right to do, because £850 at £20 a month is going to take three and a half years to pay off. They would rather get pennies in the pound now than be bothered having to chase up a small amount each month. I would phone npower and ask them what is going on.

From what I've seen it's not usual for BCW to buy these debts. They either try to collect on behalf of the original creditor, or are employed by another debt purchase firm to collect on their behalf.

Has there been notice that the debt has been sold?

I suspect Npower still own it, but they should be able to confirm a yes or no on that.

Paying Npower direct if they still own it? They may refuse payment and say must go via the collectors. Have they done this? Is your account still active to take payments? You have another method of payment?

  • My account is still working on the n power website that's how I paid the £20! I havent spoken to them regarding the debt yet as I haven't had the time but going to during the Xmas holidays. I'm really worried about dealing with it with Buch as I've read lots of things about avoiding them and not contacting them etc. I don't know what to do if n power say it has to be dealt with them & them only!

I take it they've written to you at the new address.

At some point the addresses were going to get linked if you are doing normal things like having a bank account.

    You can either:
    • engage with BCW and pay through them. They will continually hassle you to pay more. Or
    • carry on paying npower and ignore BCW.

BCW will just be acting as collectors so eventually they will work through their standard letters and return the account to their client.
  • Yes, they sent the letter to my new address. I've contacted national debt line because I'm still unsure of how to deal with this. I'd have probably just contacted buch & paid through them, but since reading all the bad things about them on here it has made me think twice. I really don't know what to do!

    - do I try & pay through n power

    - or do I contact buch & pay through them

I'm anxious that this company are going to give me a hard time & threaten all sorts after reading everything about them.

Am I entitled to try and pay through n power & what do I do if n power refuse?
