DLA Payments/renewal help please!

Hi folks! Firstly id just like to wish you all a slighty early MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Anyway...my partner gets middle rate care DLA. His claim is up for review (the current claim ends on 10th Jan 2014)
We got the claim renewal forms and sent them back in-we got a letter to say they were received on 18th November and were being dealt with etc etc.
We've still not heard anything and this award ends in 25 days.
would it be wise to ring them for an update? Or shall we just leave it?
Also my partner is due a payment on 31st December. Now one person said that he wont get it as DLA pay 2 weeks in arrears and 2 weeks in advance and cos his award ends on 10th Jan, he wont get this months payment unless they sort his next award out (if he gets one) pretty sharpish.
But another guy from welfare rights said yes, he will get a full 4 weeks payment on 31st Dec because they pay in arrears. Its his payment on the 28th Jan that will be up in the air if they haven't sorted his claim out by then.
I know theyre very busy at the mo what with introducing PIP to some areas but the last time he did a renewal it only took them 2 weeks to get back to us.
my partner doesnt like to pester people so hes not wanting to ring them.
Many thanks.

  • DLA is paid in arrears so you will get the full payment at the end of December.

The only way to know the progress of the claim is to phone them, which I know can be a bit nerve wrecking, but they are very polite and will understand that given the time scale, you would like to know.

Do it straight away today and then you will be able to relax a bit!
  • Thanks toomuchinfo, that's what I thought regarding this months payment. I cant remember DLA or any other benefit for that matter being paid 2 weeks in advance and 2 weeks in arrears....
Ill get my other half to ring them when he gets back from physio.
Just another quick question-what will happen with Januarys payment if they haven't sorted it out before his award ends? Will he get paid from 1st Jan-10th Jan (the 10th being the date that his current award ends)
