Hi

I am having problems with Vanquis at the moment and I am unsure of the best way to proceed.

I am currently suffering financial difficulty and I am over my credit limit by roughly £200. I emailed Vanquis to acknowledge this and to see if I could set up a plan for 6 months to hopefully bring this under control. I offered to pay £50 for 6 months and asked if they would freeze the interest and charges etc and also cancel the repayment option plan on my account. They replied saying that if I paid £251 this would sort out my account - Not sure how they thought I was going to afford this?!? I replied saying I could not do this so they then emailed saying they would accept £51 a month for 3 months but that the Repayment Option Plan would have to continue. I emailed them saying I was not happy with this as basically my £51 a month payment would be covering the Repayment Option Plan. They replied to this saying that they cannot deal with account specific details via email and that I had to call them. I emailed them saying that they had already been discussing account specific information via email so why all of a sudden could they not. I received no reply to this so after 5 days I emailed them again basically stating that as far as I am concerned they are being of no help to someone who is in financial difficulty and again asked for confirmation off what I can do to bring my account into order.

It is now almost a month since I first contacted them and I am no further forward and becoming increasingly stressed by the situation. Does anyone have any advice of what I can do? I am most annoyed at their total lack of help :(

  • Why did you apply for a credit card when you're in no way in a position to run one?

Do you have an issue with calling them? If not get on the phone. You'll be able to explain your position and discuss your options with them. You can then confirm any details agreed by mail.

The solution lies in dialogue with Vanquis, not discussion on a forum.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.
  • Thanks Mem for the advice.

Bugsy - A quite pathetic response when you have no idea of the situation I am in at the moment.

The OP at no point said when they applied for the card they couldn't afford it, they clearly said they are having financial difficulties NOW.

It is entirely possible they have had the card for years always paid up to date and then something unexpected happened to lead to the current situation. The OP isn't just putting their head in the sand or trying to walk away from the debt, they are in fact trying to make an arrangement to pay what they can now and presumably if things improve they will clear the rest.

No doubt BB will follow on from the typical no help reply with the usual-if the unexpected happens you should have vast savings to get you through. Unfortunately large chunks of people only earn either a low income or have such high costs for mortgage/rent that they have little or no money to save. Or you get several emergencies one after the other leaving you cleared out.

OP if you can't face contacting them on the phone, I would send in writing the instruction to cancel the income protection scheme and make the offer of what you can afford as well as repeating both via email.

    Good Luck

Have you asked for a Payment Holiday under the Vanquis Repayment Option Plan you're paying for?: http://www.vanquis.co.uk/credit-cards/vanquis-repayment-option-plan.

ROP isn't PPI. You don't need to have lost your job to be able to make a claim.

I'm not sure if they will allow that seeing as I am over my limit. The main thing I want to do is get the account back under the limit first and then take things from there.
  • It says you can opt out of ROP at any time, so you could complain about that. Can you not make a claim on that though?

Always best to communicate in writing and at least get proof of posting if you don't want to pay for signed for.
