Lloydstsb and American express join forces

Lloydstsb and American express have joined forces and are bringing out a joint credit card which will be offering points and i believe cashback on the amount you spend.

Appartantly applications will be in the lloydstsb branches start of June, with the bank phoning current customers to give them first shout at signing up.

just a heads up to anyone that would be interested

    Hi there,
I know that MBNA and Amex will start offering joint cards in the UK soon as they do in the US. Where did you see the Lloyds one advertised?

I wonder what type of card it will be? Visa/MC or Amex... or maybe you will get a choice?

sorry have not as yet got confirmed which type its going to be, but heres a little more information.

You earn 1 point for each £1 you spend, although you dont earn points on bts, cash advances or via spending at gambling sites.

2k points =£10 high street gift voucher which can be spent at the following shops

M&S, Argos, Debenhams, BHS, Homebase, Dixons, UCI, B&Q, WH Smith, Ticketmaster and you can also use them to get leisure vouchers not sure but i think they may be bonus bond vouchers, again i need to clarify this.

    Hi All,

Going by the above then, this gives a 0.5% rate of moneyback. Although you get 1 point per £1, you need 2000 points (i.e. to have spent £2000) to get £10 back, so at present the 'proper' Amex card is still better if Moneyback is what you are after!

Wonder how the MBNA/Amex Card will work?

    Cheers

So where did you hear about it?
  • I read about it on the bank's intranet at work yesterday (not Lloyds incidentally!). It said it would utilise the Amex network in the UK or somesuch so I took it to mean it would be an AMex card with a Lloyds logo!

... to produce a card that no-one can get and that no-one will accept? :D
