Why not simply set up your own FTP server.
Buy a 1TB NAS for £100.. set it up to be an FTP server. I use my NAS when I have to send EPIC big files (e.g. a 40gb virtual machine file)

I do use dropbox a lot for work though.. i've got 55gb of space available since i've registered it with an ipad & android phone, plus a few referrals, and some extra space came with my Galaxy S3.

You get 7GB with skydrive.. Microsoft's alternative to dropbox

Edit: I just found this for dropbox - a way of monitoring when files are downloaded:

People thinking about leaving yousendit/ hightail might like to know my fee dropped from £49 to £14.99 appx as soon as I said I was leaving.

Thanks for your heads up on google drive. Can send bigger files for nothing.
    Have cancelled yousendit / hightail.

I use Dropbox. You only get 2GB of free space (although I can give you a referral code for a bit more or you can upgrade to their premium service), but it works really well. You just put a file in the "Public" subfolder and Dropbox gives you a URL to the file.
I'm a big fan - I get over 5 gig for a bit of PR for them, all free

I use it to make work talk to home. I write BAT files to clear it off both sides, then bob's my uncle - you're only in bother with 5 gig really if you're sending real bulk - scary what has become free- could fit 6-7 full AVI movies on that!
  • I find dropbox really great, use for all design work.
  • maybe if you posted your requirements it would be easier for people to offer solutions? but your own FTP is probably a good solution and simple to setup.
