I also got one of these - many thanks
any idea where i get the gas from and how much it costs ??

I know B&Q had gas canisters for a £30 returnable deposit (not sure whether it's limited to this season or perpetually returnable) and then £20 to fill with lots of gas, or I think £15 to fill with much less gas.

But I wondered if there were any cheaper places to get the gas from, or places with smaller deposits for the canisters?

woolworths were doing gas bbq's last year and when enquiring about gas bottles was advised to nip down to the local council dump as they will have loads and then take it to be refilled we have a local place that does it.. this way you dont have to pay a deposit on the bottle.. council dumps have loads ofthese

I went and asked down the local tip whether they had any gas canisters going spare and got a very funny look.

I think perhaps I'm 8 days too late on this one ...

I asked my local reduce-reuse-recycle centre 'operative' (a bloke who grunts) for one ....I babel-fished his reply & established he wasn't allowed to let me take one away (so much for the 're-use' aspect eh Haringey?!)...so I obviously nicked one anyway once he got waylaid (HankMcSpank 1 - 0 Haringey), however it transpired that the canister brand I'd nicked no longer existed & couldn't be exchanged for other brands (HankMcSpank 1 - 1 Haringey)...so I took it back to the tip! (HankMcSpank 1 - 2 Haringey)

In the end I got one of these...

    http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=20001&catalogId=10701&langId=-1&searchTerms=bp+gas

    cos...

    1. Very light (holds 10kg vs the normal 13kg of gas)
    2. Cannister is fibre glass vs steel (which makes it even lighter)
    3. Semi transparent bottle which shows how much gas there's left in there.
    4. Easy to get hold of (lot's of Homebase's everywhere)
    5. It's green in colour & matches my garden! :D

At this point in time, I believe that a refresher course on how to BBQ with the hood down is necessary.......Light up your fire...or mine if you are such enclined and get the coal nice and red. Then push coal in a circle all around the BBQ leaving nothing but nothing in the centre, place your piece of meat dead centre and close the lid. Check every few minutes to ensure meat does not overcook. BBQ with hoods are to be used like convecting ovens with heat circulating around the unit thus cooking the food. Remember, NO COAL in the centre hole.

    Why do people punish themselves?

Turn on the Gas to high...Push the ignitor...wait 10 minutes...turn to medium heat...put steak (anywhere on the grill)...turn in 5 minute intervals...turn off gas. EASY! I love Gas.

That would be CREMATED in our household ..................... unless it is about 3 inches thick !!

For a "normal" 1 inch steak - just 2 minutes on each side (without the lid down if you have one)

I've had the same gas cylinder for years and have no idea how much is left (we very rarely use the BBQ). Problem is I now plan to use it twice in the next fortnight, so need to be sure I have enough gas for both days. Where's the best place to get a partial refill?

My local Calor centre told me they don't do partial refills:confused: You can weigh the bottle to find out how much is left in it...the empty bottle weight should be on a metal disk around the top in pounds and ounces.
