I think it runs in the family. My brother was completely gray in his 40s and I had my first gray hair at 19. Finding a good hairdresser works!

I started going grey in my forties and had it coloured professionally for 20 years, 3 years ago I decided to let it be natural and thank goodness it looks really good.

When I was 50 I was quite poorly and diagnosed with a vitamin B12 deficiency (Pernicious Anaemia) my Hematologist told me that my premature greyness was due to this (I never mentioned the grey hair, but he did tell me this several times for some reason). If premature greying is not familial (1 had a friend with jet black hair who had significant greying from 27 years onwards who followed her Father's side of the family - and looked great with it) it might just be worth looking at the health side particularly if you are vegetarian or vegan as B12 insufficiency is particularly common in these groups

Grey hair shows in specific patches on the head which relate to brain areas and emotions. The sides of the head around the ear and just behind are the most effected places.

Interesting... I've a little patch of grey hair about an inch back from my hairline on the top of my head, wonder what area of the brain that relates to?! :)

With both parents totally grey by their 40s (Mum dyed it up until about 50 then went 'silver' ;)) I knew I had no hope of escaping it. At least there's no baldness on either side! :) I found my first grey hair at age 21, I'm 28 now and still just getting odd hairs and the little patch that appeared recently, still not bad enough to warrant getting it dyed, I just pull them out or leave them if they're hidden by my hair. The annoying thing is that I've got dark hair so they show up, would be loads better if I was blonde, it'd just look like highlights! :p
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!
