Hi All,
Back here for advice ! Not much clue about tablets/ghz android etc !!!
I have a 10 year old boy and would like to buy him a tablet, my budget is around 100 pounds but willing to go a bit more for the right tablet.
He will will use it mainly for games and surf net thought etc thought get decent one so he can use when he grows up aswell.
I was thinking about samsung tab 2 or 3 ,
or argos have the
Kindle Fire HD 7 Inch Tablet - 16GB. 99 pounds
(Is this for book only ? or can you surf the net and games etc ?
Is it android)
or Tesco have Hudl at 119 pounds
carphonewarehouse got a samsung tab 3, 99 pounds
pc world got some good ones aswell from 69.99
pls recommend me one.
Also need a cheap one for my 3 year old
Again want one for games only, I could buy a cheap one from pc world or get a used one from ebay.
pls pls recommend me one for him aswell.
Thankyou very much, Highly appreciated in advance

The majority of tablets out there are android, there's a few exceptions like the blackberry playbook and the windows tablets which are non android but yes the kindle fire is android.0

The problem with Kindle tablets I understand, is though they are Android, it's a heavily biased version towards Kindke/Amazon/e-reading.
And in their natural state, they can only read Kindle format books.David.0 -
Hi Ash. I would go for the Hudl, Its not quite as good as the Nexus 7 but is a great price and is a really good tablet. I think you are going to have a problem with getting a cheap one for the 3yrs old. Even a 3yr old will get no fun playing with a tablet that is slow and unresponsive. I would get him a Blackberry Playbook http://www.studentcomputers.co.uk/Cheap_BlackBerry_PlayBook_Tablet_Masssiv_1409314.html
Although a little aged it is a robust tablet that plays games, videos etc which should attract the little one,I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
My Brother has 4 boys and each one has a tablet, they have tried the cheap ones.
In short they are cheap for a reason, poor battery life and can be very slow.
Blackberrry is a good choice for your youngest.
I have a Nexus 7 one of the 1st ones it is excellent. New ones are even better.
Just bought a hudl for my mother this is good for the money.0 -
Ch 5 'The Gadget show' had an item comparing the
Nexus 7
Tesco Hudl
Amazon Kindle Fire
The Nexus was by far the best, with the Hudl Good value
The Kindle was disappointing because of the lack of apps

Can't the kindles be flashed to a more standard android?
I am put off Kindles and the Nooks by the lack of cameras for skype etc (I'm also buying for kids).
For Nexus there seems to a 2013 model which is very good but more like 200 quid or a 2012 model for 120 ish that is mroe comparable to the Hudl etc. The Samsung tab seems to be lower spec (but cheaper at 99). Also possible are the Asus memopad or Advent Tegra vega or a similar one that ebuyer are doing. For most there are various vouchers and discounts around to get about a tenner off and of course with the hudl there is the possibility of double tesco clubcard points.I think....0 -
As the OP is not particularly technically minded I'd suggest giving the Kindle a miss. What you want is a straight forward android tablet with play store access built in,the Kindle doesn't fulfill those criteria.
The Samsung Tabs are outdated in terms of spec/performance.
The hudl should do the job but even though it's quite well spec'd....it has a hdmi output so your son can plug it into a big telly if he wishes....it might struggle with the latest demanding games.0 -
The advent vega at currys/pc world is now 99.99 with 10% off using code vega10I think....0
