Ground Rent query

Just had a letter saying we have to pay ground rent on our house as it is due in 2 days. We complete on the sale of this house in 20 days so to say I'm annoyed at having to pay a years ground rent on something I won't be in for the best part of a year is an understatement. Anyone know if I've got any way of dodging this? It's only 70 quid but still it's 70 quid.

Any proportion of monies paid in advance on ground rent or service charges should be refunded to you by your solicitor as part of the sale process. Such advance charges are added to the buyer's account, so worry not, the vendor doesn't end up out of pocket. Make sure your solicitor is aware that the money has been paid & sent him the receipt asap. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
do check the amount in the lease - there are firms out there who buy leases which say £1.2s 9d from 1923 or whenever, and now try to charge hundreds times more !!!0
