  • Hello Sque, I found this site around sept/oct 2013. That started the op idea. Before we had just made sure mortgage was paid and thought no more of it. It was only when I discovered this site that I looked into it and discovered we were paying more on interest than we were paying off! (We were paying £441 but interest £268!) my big thing is interest. Trying to get interest below £100 a month, currently just above.

We started off well using some savings and then discovering we could drop term etc. these had a big impact but then I hit a lull. I try now to make most of little things eg turning off lights, not filling kettle to boil, closing doors, watching grocery spend, not wasting food. I sound really sad but it helps!!:o

  • So excited to post today. I'm officially below the 50k!! Delighted to see mortgage begin with 4!

Starting to think we now need to focus on the savings more than the mortgage. A number of big bills to be paid soon. Plus my car passed away so I owe a bit to mum who pulled me out.

Have been very bad and haven't read any diaries in March at all. Has been yet another rough month so hoping April will see a bit more sunshine in all areas of life. Off to read all your diaries now :-)

  • Time for an update. Currently mortgage is sitting at £47,500. Delighted to have beat June target but have set myself some hard targets for this year. I want to save 10k and also op 10% on mortgage. Not wanting much eh? Was thinking about doing out a soa. Any advice on this anyone? Would love to see if it is possible with the next 7months pay. Will have to really squeeze finances.

Congrats on your journey so far. I have very similar numbers to you; except I've opted for the more flexible savings option rather than OP. I look forward to seeing how the next few years go for you.

  • Just been browsing at my mortgage statement online and have worked out my interest is now roughly under £100 per month. That's down from £268 from when I started oping. I worked out my daily interest is just over £3 a day. With this in mind I now have decided to try to make £3 per day to offset this (yes I'm that sad:o, wouldn't tell anyone in real life, I'm just too  For that! :p) so between onepoll, swagbucks, other surveys and any pennies on the road, I intend to be interest free! :money:

  • Quick update...

Just Oped £3000 using my savings. Looked at my accounts and realised I was getting interest of 0.25 on my savings but paying 2.49 on my mortgage. So mortgage balance will be £43100 when it updates, hopefully by Monday :-)

Then I went on to halifax website and discovered that I can get a better rate on my isa and rang the bank to discover there is an easy 'renew' button on the screen. I could have been on a better deal all year :-( still at least I know now. Now that I've told all of u. I better tell OH... Oops!

Awesome work :] thats a massive OP

I know what your saying with interest in my eyes unless you got silly money sitting around 15k+ the interest is hardly anything anyway and the feeling of taking 3k off the balance of the mortgage will make you feel so much better than any interest on 3k :]

My isa is terrible :[ makes me wonder why i even have it open when i get 4% in my current account

  • Hello virtual money saver friends!

Another mortgage payment and we're down to.... £42500 :)

Savings up to just over 5 and half k. So pushing hard to bring that up a bit before the end of the year.

    That's this months update :)

  • Oh my, has it really been that long since i posted last?

This year we started off with a slightly different mentality. We had some savings but not enough to cover our expenses and yet another decent car. Now upgrading to ppl carrier as number three on route soon :) so with that in mind we pulled back on mortgage and saved our target of 15k.

Now we have just about achieved that i feel ready to tackle the mortgage again. Maybe smaller amounts with three for childcare etc and still have so much work needing done around the house.

I worked out today if we pay £800 a month we could clear mortgage in 4 years... Unfortunately that doesn't take interest into consideration so will take longer and cost more. But i so badly want to be free by dec 2020. Oh still not a fan of opments and since jan I've been making 'sneaky' overpayments!! (I wish oh realised the good wife he has, could be getting up to a lot worse than paying off our mortgage with my own spare cash!! :rotfl:)

Anyhow im back and intend to stay back! :)

    Ps mortgage now £38500 :D
