these offers are always marketed in such a way that it implies you must switch your current account,
can anyone tell me (in a nutshell) if these type of high interest offers are available without switching???

basically i would love to earn 8% interest but i also want to keep the benefits of my existing account.

    thanks in advance

Sciencegeek has articulated what I was about to ask.

Is it possible to not transfer your SOs/DDs but pay your salary in and, therefore, qualify for this account?

Yes - but you will have fund your 'old' account with whatever is needed to pay the SOs/DDs, which could be a bit of a pain as you probably need a different amount each month.

This account was actually on sale yesterday, 25 June. The ads have started on TV and flyers will be in branches on Wednesday. The Telegraph is obviously a bit confused - 2 July is when Abbey launches their 10% regular savings account.

To qualify you need to switch an account to Abbey. This means you have to move your DDs or your salary (or both, of course). The crucial part is that you have to get Abbey to do the switch for you. So if you have an account with another bank which doesn't have any DDs on it, you could ask Abbey to switch that account over and hey presto, you get a current account paying 8% for a year, as long as you move £1k through every month.

Surely this thread should be moved to the Banking and Current Account section, rather than in Savings!

    10% regular saver???

I may go for this instead as it seems less hassle than opening a current account. I already have the 7% saver so I hope that won't stop me opening the 10% one as well.
