Solicitor as Executor

  • Sorry for late reply, with the funeral everything took a back seat.

I did contact the probate office and told the I couldn't provide accurate figures as the Post Office wouldn't release balance probably till into next year, they said just estimate it and update if necessary once true figure is established, same with house value. Even if I'm £1000s out with my estimate- which I'm not- there is now way its even close to paying inheritance tax.

Forms are now with Probate Office, hoping I filled in everything ok, it is a little daunting having never done it before but pretty straightforward. I'm glad I've saved Solicitors costs.

    Thanks for all your inputs

    Just a quick update.
The Probate Office got the forms on the 20th Dec, I got them back on the 4th January (they sent the to me 2nd class).
So all in all with Christmas and the New Year I think that's about 8 working days so I'm impressed.
I've done the swearing on the Oath at a local Solicitors today for a total of £7, sent the forms back to Probate Office, and should get Probate within 10 working days.
That's a grand total of less than £120 all in, including special delivery postage.
    I'm glad I has a go myself.
    Thanks all for the info.
