PS3 switching itself off

Hi
Have had a PS3 since they were released in the UK, (4 YRS?), just lately has had a habit of switching itself off the minute I push the start button, this can go on for 7 or 8 attempts, but once working I have no further problems until I switch it off.
Any Ideas or is it time for a new one ?
Thanks

Dodgy switch/loose connection? Have you tried a diff power supply? Similar thing happened to a mate's one and it was suspected to be the conducting gel stuff on the CPU drying out I think. He ended up buying a new one when the new slim launched and flogged the old one on ebay as 'for parts/repair' and got about sixty quid I think (12 months ago).
Launch was I think 6 1/2 years ago (I've got an early slim model which is 3 years old+ now) so if you got a launch one it may just simply be dying.0 -
Apparently the new Superslim one is a nightmare for overheating once it gets a few months old ?
The old versions do suffer lead free solder shringage problems.Be happy...;)0 -
