And the Kia Picanto....which comes with a 7 year warranty!

And less prone to leaking, but No 5 year warranty and servicing them is often more expensive than the Toyota.0 -
Consider other options as well, and make sure the dealer knows that you are doing so. If they think the only car you are considering is theirs then they'll have no incentive whatsoever to haggle over price. As above, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 are identical cars bar cosmetic differences, so do look at these locally as well.
Check the service history of the car. It should have been serviced once a year or every 10,000 miles (whichever is sooner).
An Aygo/C1/107 is a good choice of a cheap to run little car by the way.0 -

I doubt all garages would let you do this? Paying a small deposit on a car you are certain you want to buy is not really a big deal in my book. The problem comes when people pay a deposit and then change their mind...0 -
Aircon is a must have.
That is rather up to the OP to decide. It's nice to have obviously but adds to purchase price and running costs, and is certainly not a must have as far as I'm concerned. I live in Lincolnshire not Florida... Car drivers somehow coped for many years without air con.0 -
Sales people will tell you anything to get a deal,
Firstly and most importantly know the market, know what the lowest and the highest prices are for a particular model you may be interested in, Let the salesman know that your clued up.
Keep emotion away from it, and have an open mind on the model, make and spec.
Do not let them start to sell you something with more extras or a different spec to what you want, however again have an open mind and don't dismiss or agree to anything.
Never agree to anything on your first visit, They will ALWAYS tell you they have someone interested who is coming this afternoon, It Bull its the oldest trick in the book, go home think about it.
Go with gut instincts if your not happy 100% walk away, there is always another deal. Dont be pushed by the salespeople be Curtis but treet them with contempt, they are not your freinds, they are simply trying to make money from you.
Play hardball, talk figures right from the start, don't let them go into patter mode, make it clear what you want to pay, also be clear that if they haven't got what you want your thank them for there time and stop wasting there's and yours from the start.
Make it clear how your going to pay, If you do intend to Finance get quoted before hand, It will give you a much better bargaining tool.
If your P/X pretty much the same rules apply...
Get everything in writing, there hate doing this so play them and make em think the deal is on the table if you do, then walk away and come back if your happy, black and white figures speak volumes, there also give you leverage if the salesman has promised you the earth is flat.
This is just from my experience, I apply he same rules when I have my business head on, for buying 50p consumables to quarter of a million pound machinery deals.
A colleague of mine but senior to me would always fall asleep during deals, He would take his second in command and get him to do the talking, he would turn up to any negation in an old pick up truck and his scruffy work clothes, He was what I call the ultimate dealer, started life leaving school at 14 with nothing and dieing a billionaire with 1000s of acres and property to his name.0 -

It's an opinion based on fact. After owning an Aygo for 6 years aircon IS a must have. Its not just for keeping you cool, its more useful to prevent the interior steaming up in colder weather. Its a small car and also has lots of exposed metal which gets cold and adds to the problem.
Before aircon we 'coped'. Steamed up windows, windows down when it was raining in November so you could see out. Now flick a switch and no such problems.
Extra on purchase price on a used Aygo is negligible, as are running costs. Ours never did below 45mpg even with aircon constantly on.0 -
wow thats alot to take in but thanks guys.
the car i like is an 2011 aygo on for just under 5k with around 15k miles. cant remeber details exactly but not a basic model. and if my old car is written off it will be a cash sale.
so the main things are...
dont act dumb and like this is the only car i have seen, tell them i have others to view.
dont take ant extras which i have never done anyway.
and if they wont budge much on price try and get a service or road tax out of them.SPC 0370 -

Must admit I use the climate control in my car much more in winter for the same reason. I virtually never use it in summer. Something like 5 days in the last year to cool the car down. Before aircon we 'coped'. Steamed up windows, windows down when it was raining in November so you could see out.
On the other hand I never had to do that on any car I've owned without aircon. I take your point if Aygos are particularly prone to steaming up though.Extra on purchase price on a used Aygo is negligible, as are running costs. Ours never did below 45mpg even with aircon constantly on.
I trust most of the time you got a lot better than 45 mpg? Or perhaps that was mostly city driving. As well as fuel use (also increased a little by the weight of the AC system), there are potential additional costs if the AC needs servicing or repairing.0 -
Doesn't harm to take a few pages printed out from similar models on Autotrader, even if they're sold or miles away. Don't have to let the salesman see the detail, but it can be a good excuse to walk away without committing to a deal, as you've "got others to see". Can also encourage them to make that last offer to clinch the deal...wow thats alot to take in but thanks guys.
